Wall colour advice for open kitchen dining area
Comments (8)If you were my client I would agree with Samantha that you really need to keep it to the naturals to keep it as light and airy as possible. The units are fairly dark and the black tiles will also be sucking in light so a green would make it feel quite a bit smaller and darker than it does now. I would paint it all in a nice clean and fresh off white (floors, walls and skirting) and than add your accent green in through accessories which will also make it easy to change if you get board of it or find is too cold in winter months. You could also paper the feature wall, as suggested, in keeping with the scheme. Hang a large mirror to help reflect light and then get some nice warm blinds or window dressing to add texture, warmth and a homely feel. You could also change the small light fitting in the dining room to a large pendent style light to hang over the dining table which will add impact and make the room feel more balanced. You could consider a 3D render/image of the space which do not cost too much but will give you a great look at the room after painting so you can see what is possible and what effect the colour will have on the space. I hope that helps :)...See MoreAdvice for Open Plan Zoning for Living/Kitchen/Dining Area!!
Comments (32)I'm doing all I can to stop it from crashing but no luck yet! I've lengthened the island from 3.2M to 3.6M to increase the storage for the kitchen but agree the island should be moved down slightly. I'd like a really large seating area but will have a play around to see how I can make this area work better as the settee is a little bit close to the island! I've always wanted a formal seating area and will have the space to do this but may be able to get away with 2 settees rather than the 3 I had my heart set on!! I'd put the TV on that wall so I could see it when I was in the kitchen cooking! But it would be better placed on the other wall for people sat at the Island to see. Your points are so helpful! This is the most productive day I've had in a while!! And I've just watched the George Clarke show 'Ugly House to Lovely House' to see the Crittall windows and I love them!...See MoreOpen plan wardrobe area advice
Comments (20)Brian, I strongly suspect any solution similar to those in the photos you have supplied will be extremely expensive. As you have mentioned, you have already had one company provide a price which was at a price you envisaged. Unfortunately, a designer solution such as this is rarely scalable in terms of size, the fact that you are mobilising a designer, fitter etc. will carry a substantial price from the outset. The previous suggestions offered by professionals on this site suggested by B&Q and Ikea are clearly at a different price point, but nonetheless a solution to the dilemma you presented....See Moreplease critique my lighting plan for open plan area...
Comments (9)Personally I think you have too many spotlights and I think the lights planned for the beams should be on the same switch. I would have six ceiling spots around the kitchen and then have directional spotlights on the beams and angle them up so the light reflects off the ceiling. I would then have three pendants over the island as I think clusters of three have more impact than just two. I would have a big pendant over the dining table and I would move the island and table to make this possible. As well as under cabinet lights I would have plinth level lights. Separately I think if you are sat on the sofa or at the desk an overhead light is uncomfortable and I would have an anglepoise on the desk instead. So you need four light switches and I would have all except your under cabinet lights on a dimmer....See MoreJanine Nairn
