Ideas for the Advice section!
Comments (45)Me again! Can we also have a reader's how to section. Such as a designer showing in pictures how to stage a sideboard with bijouterie depending on style, or how to style a bedroom with accents, or even articles on how to achieve X,Y,Z on a budget (I'm sure Houzzer's will have an idea - maybe this could be a section in itself?) Articles on colour or pattern matching etc would appeal vastly methinks. Even simple things that can easily be found on an internet search such as how to prep bannisters for painting would give a more magazine feel. Also a regional links page for cateogries. These could accompany articles. For eg. an article on prepping with images and step by step along with a list of Houzz recommended companies regionally who could undertake the work or fix a botched job! Topics I would be interested in include: How to add value to your home, how to maximise light, how to achieve a professional finish decorating; interior design ideas; how to change the facade of a property; flowers for the garen, door way, flowers for shaded areas, climbers for shaded areas, scented plants, how to ensure colour in the garden all year round etc. Decorating/furnishing ideas to create optical illusions to create size/light etc. Thanks for asking. I love this site and literlly spend hours getting lost on it with a cup of coffee :-)...See MoreColor for living room? Likely to have an exposed brick section
Comments (3)You can probably get away with any colour if they're old brick which I suspect they are? If it's really modern red brick, then shades of blue, grey, white, green would work. In terms of painting it grey do you know which way the room faces and how much light it gets? If it has little light there are still a few paler greys that would work. The curtains are very dark so that doesn't help. If you're seeing clients I would probably go for a pale grey ( I don't know what type of clients they are but am assuming a calm, light environment is needed?!) Do you have any existing furniture to put in the room? I only ask as there are thousands of paint colours so it's normally easier to pick wall colour after the sofa etc....See MoreHow can I bring this living room to life?
Comments (40)We were going for the 3 seater + the chaise, so it'd be wide. Then the footstool as well so when it's just us two we can create 2 chaises for ultimate comfort. We considered a 3 seater + 2 seater but the room is awkwardly shaped / laid out for that. We wanted something large enough for multiple people to sit on if we have visitors. The 3 seater on its own with the footstool would make for smaller width as you'd lose the + chaise seat, know what I mean? Unless we did a 3 seater plus a chair. With the TV in one corner and the wood stove in the other, I can't figure out how to place two sofas without one of them being back / side on to something or blocking it....See MoreHelp choose color for sectional & mantel
Comments (7)It's all down to personal preference isn't it? You could try finishing the coffee table in a taupe and then tie in the sofas to match, but stain the top and the fireplace to match the floor. Throw in a little turquoise, always works well with browns and taupes. Or you could go the whole hog and finish everything to match for a more blended, calm look. Makes the whole room look lighter. If you choose to paint the top of the coffee table, i'd recommend having a piece of glass cut to cover the painted surface, or maybe laquering it / varnishing, over the top of the paint for added durablility. Have you ever thought about swapping the two sofas over? Then you could relax against the arms facing the fireplace....See MoreClaudia Levinson
