Is that cedar siding on the exterior inside the deck?

Please let me know if that is cedar siding, and if so can you let me know how well it holds out in Minnesota? I am currently having a modern home designed that will have all the new technology integrated and am on the fence between cedar siding or LP Smartside siding that looks similar to cedar lap siding. The character would obviously not be the same, but in regard to color and feel it would be similar. I love the look of cedar, but hesitate the long term issues I have read about.
