workstation sink in L-shaped kitchen

I am considering installing a large workstation sink (48”) in the corner of an L-shaped kitchen. The corner cabinet has been eliminated because I didn’t want to have to dive in there and I didn’t want a lazy Susan there either... Would it work? Has anyone seen it done?

I think it is a pretty good idea.. that space is usually wasted. I think a conversation is needed with the solid surface counter-top installers to be sure the counter-top is strong enough. Call us and ask for Molly.. she just remodeled her kitchen with a corner sink and has first hand experience with the situation.... 513-327-8078

Hello, the breakfast bar is roughly 195cm long, 33cm deep and just over 91cm high, same height as kitchen counters. I went with 2 little cupboards underneath rather than space for 3 stalls, although you can squash 3 people in!

Hello Rikita, Have you considered leaving the sink where it is on the island and then having a bigger island that morphs into a dining area... There are many more interesting designs for islands that are much more than a box with a few cupboards.. The sink situation currently I feel you would find more useful for preparation/washing and in addition a bigger island with dining could be fantastic.. Having that run of four cabinetry along under the opposite window wall from the corner as mentioned already could be of further benefit. Or consider a double height larder cupboard.. for food storage. So here are a few ideas about the island morphing into dining table.. Either cantilever or split level in either linear or other arrangements.. Hopefully gives you an idea of how creative you can be : )) This one works with the architecture of the space it's in.. The narrow nature of the room suggests a linear configuration. So look spatially at the kitchen area but the idea can be applied in many ways to fit the room so going outwards widthways towards the hand drawn pictured dining table.. You can then have dining chairs or integrate a bar stool seating area.. So really making the most of the idea of an island.. With a meter clearance from cooking area there is a lot more space in the room that can be used..

Hello mrgu1, Well... I'm another! BUT.. What you need is someone who thinks outside the box.. So with that out of the bag... Have you thought about an L shaped Island.... Why not create something that really identifies with the space.. A really slim 600 width island that opens out to a bigger dining portion.. It could even be a series of smaller modular "islands" with a fixed element for dining.. That way you could move things around.. With that run though.. you could easily do away with island altogether and then just focus on the dining table and seating..If you have at least 5m run it's doable! May not be palatial but you could create a larder in the utility area and house the washing machine in one of the 600 cupboard spaces in the cabinet run or situate in the storage area marked if it's wide enough.. You could potentially stack the washer and dryer if you don't want to see them. A lovely one such as a Samsung eco bubble can look very stylish on view! I'd be inclined to consider the idea of opening up the front reception and living area with the addition of french doors or sliding doors that suit the period and style of your home. Just to add another idea I had when looking at the plans you've posted.. : ))

In our new kitchen we got a double drawer dishwasher, so we always have space for dirty stuff. Our tea towels and hand towels live on a pull out rail in the left hand cupboard (where the rinse aid and washing tablets also live) and washing up brush, washing up liquid and sponges & cloths, live under the sink in a drawer in the right hand cupboard. Everything gets done in the dishwasher, other than roasting pans, saucepans etc, which get hand washed, drained for a while and then finished off with the tea towel and put way more or less right away. Other than that, there's only our expensive wine glasses, that get washed and dried immediately. All of which tends to keep the area quite clear all the time. I would say that the greatest difference has been made by the double dishwasher, we always used to have dirty stuff hanging around waiting, either for the dishwashing to finish, or waiting for it to be emptied of clean stuff.
