Garden layout help

So, we have a lovely large garden but we are unsure how to lay it out.
We'd currently have the back right hand side as a small allottement type thing.
We need to decide where to designated a play area for out two under 5s and how to incorporate more shade into the space. We get a lot of sun during the day and shade appears about 3:30.
I'd also like to have more flowers. It's seems very sparse!

I want pics! Sounds like you have a good space. We moved in 5 yrs ago with 2 under 5s. We have never had swings/trampoline etc, but grass area, space for football, basketball, a digging area near your allotment where they can dig. My 8 yr old still loves digging/making ponds/ etc in the designated space!

Also a few separate patio/seating areas is good to have.
If you draw a plan mark the measurements and where best sun is

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to extend the hallway into the utility as this is the cheapest option and the utility needs doing anyway. We are going to remove some of the cupboards, so that the pushchair can go in the space created and move the sofa to block the playroom door... then we can test it out for a few weeks. I've reorganised the kitchen cupboards, moved the microwave and the plates etc and its made a big difference already to how the kitchen feels. Feeling positive :)

I want to have no lawn garden due to having 2 dogs. I was starting my garden ages ago but tried to finish off house things first I need garden design help I like my raised bed the hut will be replaced and moved to other side as I don’t want to be sitting looking into bins they will go behind a trellis I screen . Kinda like 3 diff areas but though about raised beds at the side. Now I’m confused I will be doing this myself on a tight budget buying things when I can Dug up so much like a swamp with the dogs not very nice Any help drawings anything would be appreciated I was going to try garden designers but the cost just can’t do it. I have 20 reclaimed slabs lying as well. I do also think painting the paving at my back door light grey to make colour mor uniform. Thanks in advance.

Hello Faye, What a lovely blank canvas. First of all I would check the depth of the earth under the grass. Unfortunately, modern builds are notorious for a lot of gravel, bricks and concrete less than a meter under the outside space. This may mean building up soil for any tall planting / trees or using very large pots to create this. Also for any possible foundation for structures. So check, various points around the garden. Also how high is the side brick wall and back fence ? What is on the other side of the wooden back fence ? :)

Hi Alex, Thanks for sending the floor plan across. I think the layout works well, keeping the kitchen where it currently is. Especially as you have the lovely garden view. I think an option to consider would be opening up the two rooms - kitchen and living room. This would create a really large entertaining space. If sofas are positioned correctly along with the dining table you can still have separate 'zones' in the room with it being open. I am assuming you have a patio door out to the garden. A bi-fold would work really well at boosting in some more light especially if it was to run the majority of the wall (budget permitting) otherwise a full height window either side and inline with the patio door would be a cost effective light boosting solution. If opening up the two rooms isn't a possibility you could look at effective lighting, that can help boost light in the areas of the room that appear darker. Hi Charlotte,

It does sound like you have a good plot to work with (even though I still couldn't see any pictures).

Regarding a designated children play area, it is always important to remember that you will want to keep an eye on them so it's good that it is a visible area. It is also important to remember that they grow up, so some future proofing is needed.

There are a lot of ways to introduce shade in the garden, be it with trees or outbuildings such as pergolas, arches etc.

I find that a good way to make the flowers stand out in a garden is to locate them in raised beds, which helps to bring it closer to your eyes.
