Comments (7)For quartz cheaper than Silestone & Caesarstone, you have to be careful that you are getting good quality. Some alternatives aren't good. And by good quality, I mean good quality quartz, good quality machining, templating, flexibility at installation (e.g. some machining on site can be helpful to ensure tidy up stands, edges) etc. I went through finding an alternative earlier this year. My research led me to two companies. One was Rock & Co which offers a product called Urban Quartz in a large range of colours. They have a showroom in Hertfordshire, near St Albans. There was also another company called Cambridge Worktops which is linked to Stoneworld in Kendal, which offered a quartz product called Cliveden Quartz. . There were minor differences between what they were offering in terms of the quartz products and their processing, and logistics -- and each company wanted me to believe that their approach was great and the other's approach was inappropriate. But after a lot of questioning I had the feeling that I was willing to deal with either company. And in both cases their prices involved a significant saving. In the end I contracted with Rock & Co because they had the shade of off white that I liked best. They exceeded my expectations in some respects; met expectations in many respects, and fell short just in some. So I can't say the process was issue free, but I can same that I am overall happy, and that our quartz countertop is now installed and it looks amazing....See MoreQuartz seam advice
Comments (7)Hi Starting with the joint, that looks really bad and with the chipped edge to it it's unacceptable IMO, is there any jointing compound used? The joint should be flat and the gap should be a couple of mm, have a colour matched 2 part adhesive used to join the worktops and when you run your hand down it its totally smooth, certainly not rough to touch. For the gap at the back, i'd just use some decorators caulk to fill it and then decorate, but might be worthwhile checking that you have an even overhang to the worktop, if you measure the worktop edge to the front of the cabinet (not door) this should be about 40mm (sometimes 30mm for handleless doors) and the measurement should be the same all round your kitchen (within reason). If the overhang isn't the same then the worktop hasn't been fitted properly but its probably been caused by the walls not being perfectly flat and even though a template is made, quartz is not the material that you can just scribe to the shape of a wall....See Morequartz worktop Join
Comments (37)Hello again! I have now had the new worktop fitted and I’m really pleased with it :). It looks how I thought it should and the join is where my hob will be fitted (hopefully this afternoon) so not noticeable at all. The seam looks more obvious in the photo than it does on the eye but in all honestly it’s fab! Thank you all for your comments and advice, appreciated x...See MoreHALLETT & Co.
