Missing piece of a fireplace, need help identifying what I need

Hello!

I’ve recently started stripping a small bedroom fireplace in my home, but it’s missing as far as I can tell the hood, but also what I think is the grate at the bottom?

I’ve had a look online but honestly I’m a bit lost on what to search for, if I could get some help with knowing what key words to use and where to look I’d be really grateful.

I will attach a picture, I live in a 1930’s terraced house.

As an added note this fireplace will be purely decorative.

I’ve always found reclamation yards really helpful - see if you can email the photo to a couple and ask if they have parts to finish it off?

I’m no expert, but it looks like a Victorian or Victorian style insert that you have there. Normally it would have a surround which will sit on the hearth. You could try reclamation yards if you want an authentic surround to match, however there are many very good reproduction ones for sale on eBay etc. if there is a gap between your insert and the surround you can fill that gap with attractive tiles. I bought a very basic pine surround from B&Q and painted it white, who would know? The first pic is how, maybe, it should look, the second is modern tiling used to fill the gap, and bottom is my truly, original B&Q special! 😊

First of all, you aren't clueless :) I would follow your gut and turn the couch to face the fireplace, put the TV on the oak box near the window, the armchair and side table over near the built in dresser, and the red cabinet between the two windows where the armchair was. I like both your pieces of art on the other side of the room. If the red cabinet is between the two windows, you might want to switch the vertical piece with the one that is on the wall above the dining table - just see how it looks. Actually, I think the bird painting could look really good above the fireplace - it will add visual height (as jonathan suggested) and brings some red to that side of the room and it has bits of black and charcoal to tie in the fireplace and the couch...... If you have the TV to the left of the fireplace, I'd move the map (I like it for personal reasons :). Anyway, you really want a mirror up there.... it's a bit tricky because the fireplace is off set. Something this shape would be fab because most other items in there are really angular, but this one is too big and the price is crazy: Otherwise maybe a couple of small mirrors that you can also off set and put in a group, which would also add height: I'd do three or five of different sizes and shapes. I actually like the rug size and colour - it ties in with the blinds and the taupe in two pieces of your art and has good texture. Add a few more cushions to the couch and armchair in a couple of different fabrics. Maybe some of these:

Greg think you have made a great start, just needs a few colourful statement pieces. Firstly the chest of drawers are fab, my suggestion if you like them would be to utilise them in the lounge either side of the radiator under the window, for storing what looks like cd's the other side of the fireplace in these. You could put the existing cubes either side of the two sofa's. I would ditch the rug in the lounge, and get something bold and bright such as cobalt blue with orange/yellow. In the bedroom, keep the IKEA drawers and paint them either black or dark blue and have them adjacent to each other on the back wall opposite the bed, with the TV on top as someone has already suggested. The art work is great, but would swap it over to where the mirror is and move that elsewhere. Again ditch the rug, maybe an animal skin would work well in here, keeping a masculine feel. Pick some of the colours from the artwork for a well chosen throw and cushions for the bed, and don't be afraid to use some other accessories such as vases, lamps and dare I say candles!

Hi, we created a fake chimney breast around our stove (although this was planned from the start of having our stove installed). It was constructed from stud work, boarded with fire retardant cement board inside and then boarded/plastered on the outside. We decided upon an oak beam for the mantel, which was added during construction of the stud work. Our lounge was originally just a square box, so adding this feature has transformed it!

I just did a search for fireplace parts and found gratefireplaceaccessories.co.uk. Worth a look to identify what you need.

I think you are missing more than you actually do have. I would be looking to pull it out and replace it.
