How do I make this look better?
Comments (44)For a quick, easy and cheap facelift you'll be amazed how far a clean-up alone will go. Jet wash the wall and the driveway setts. Put a lick of paint on the ironwork, black would definitely be good. Brush in fresh kiln-dried sand between the setts. Prune back those sad looking shrubs before they get back into growth, which will be any time now. Don't cut back those firs, they will not grow back and are likely to just die. If you do anything at all with them, get rid and plant something which grows more happily in this country. It's a low definition photo so I can't see the state of the lawn or whether the wall needs re-pointing. Look yourself and treat accordingly. That alone will lift the place sufficiently to give you breathing space. Then you can think through what budget you have left and which of the many ideas available you prefer and can prioritise accordingly. On the other hand, whatever you do will not look good while all that looks scruffy and unloved....See MorePlease help with rug and furniture decisions....
Comments (71)Hi Pannacotta, I think the etsy one may be unique rug store, they overdye vintage rugs. I really like the rug from westelm, will it be too modern though if you didn't like the JL striped one? What do you think of their Cadiz one? I can't decide if I like it! Try both of these links from ebay, you may like a couple, they're over budget if you go for the new size but under if you go for 2x3 http://stores.ebay.co.uk/rugmartoutlet/_i.html?_nkw=Faded+vintage+retro&rt=nc&_pgn=1&_ipg=48 http://stores.ebay.co.uk/rugmartoutlet/Modern-Patchwork-Rugs-/_i.html?_fsub=7903057012...See MoreGlass ideas for internal oak doors?
Comments (23)Hello. Those doors are beautiful and do not need glass that will block your view and compete for attention. My suggestion is to have clear glass. If you can find old style antiqued glass, or handmade glass that would be my vote. Otherwise just use plain glass. The key is the view through the doors (both ways). The doors will function as a frame so arrange furniture accordingly. I suggest new long curtains that hang closer to the ceiling. A beautiful neutral linen, or something that excites you. If you hang a vibrant or patterned curtain then your black sofa (is it a chair?) will not dominate the view through the doors. If you elect for a neutral curtain, then you may want to relocate the black sofa in favour of a more neutral piece. Beautiful home, what we can see of it. Good luck!...See Morebest way for lazy girl to change this to black
Comments (17)Hi there, not sure if you’ve made any progress but hope I can help. Did you use a foam gloss roller or fluffy one? Only asking because I had the same patchy effect when painting downstairs loo with foam roller. Also can depend on the paint used. With water based paints such as the F&B eggshell I think it can show up bubbling more than the oil based ones. For your cabinet I suggest lightly sanding the rough patches and just go for the paintbrush. Work the the paint while it’s wet. Load up the brush so it’s got enough paint to spread around but not dribbling. Don’t work in the paint when it’s drying as this can create a dragging effect and more patchiness so if you’re working close to a radiator or heat source you need to work quickly. Personally I prefer using a fluffy roller for larger surfaces but I think a paintbrush will be just fine. Planning on a similar project myself in the near future using car enamel paint which I imagine is extra gloopy (we’ll see how that goes:)) Hope all goes well. X...See MoreSarah U-S
