Hi Weewelshdragon, You're correct, brickbond metro tiles is boring, in fact metro tiles period, are boring. They've been around since about the turn of the 20th century, and so "last year!" this is an ensuite I transformed last year from a dark, dingy and depressing space into something light, airy and really quite special. Brick terrace vs composite decking

We had a similar dilemma with our current project. We had a lovely patio but awkward steps down from the house garden level. With our kitchen reconfiguration we put in bifolds so created a brick built upper terrace to Walk out on to. The builder tried to get us to deck but We had had similar treacherous wet slimey experiences to you in our old house so not keen. Anyway, it's not finished yet but I can see it is going to look fab. We couldn't match the York stone so have a wood effect tile to contrast. My builder reckoned it was £8k of work and materials at the start of the project but we have an all inclusive so I don't know how accurate that would have been if I'd asked for the savings and gone for decking!!

being a big fan of all things rustic , I would say not only leave brick but go 1 step more and make that brick wall as bold as it can be. bring back it's original brown appeal or even paint it that rustic bold brown that any brick decor deserves. that said, some pics wouldve helped a lot here because sometimes going old isn't always the best option hah

Jonathan, so basically what your saying is you prefer all the houses on a street to look the same? Like the majority of new builds. As long as people are maintaining the houses and updating them (within reason) what's wrong with houses looking differently? 8 years ago I bought the house directly opposite (semi) my house & put a double side extension. & Wraparound to the rear gutted it started again. Looked totally different to anything on the street. That in turn raised the price of houses in the street totally smashed so called ceiling price of street too when I sold it. Think we had 7 or 8 offers £15/£20k over asking price. That wasn't very cohesive but we done ok
