Thought it might be interesting to show some kitchens that have been fitted recently featuring a BORA Hob.

In varying different styles & positions...maybe gives you an idea for you new project & how BORA could benefit you.

Some very nice installations there! We're certainly fitting more venting hobs year on year - though I still scratch my head as to why anyone puts them in a conventional run under wall units, like your last pic! I'd rather have the pan drawer space and lose a little in the wall unit to a conventional canopy hood...

I think the reason people are rejecting the overhead extractor is because they are really only effective in small rooms where they can extract and filter all the air in the room many times an hour in order to eliminate odour and grease. If you have a large room then these overhead extractors seem to be insufficient and a cooktop extractor seems the better bet because these appliances don’t have to circulate all the air in the space….. they just have to have enough pull to stop the smells rising from your pots on the cooktop

We have a ceiling mounted extractor in a very large room and it works really well. We ended up with a Brittania BEST extractor (bought from John Lewis) simply because we have a structural steel running above and the position of the internal ducting fit best with that model, though it's a bit bigger than we ideally wanted. The slightly lowered section of ceiling around the extractor is also because of the steel and wouldn't otherwise have been needed. We were actually told that there is a minimum height, rather than maximum, for it to work properly - see http://www.besthoods.co.uk/2011/08/ceiling-extractors-8-things-you-need-to-consider-before-buying-a-ceiling-hood/ It's very powerful and we've had no issues with it. A family member has the pop up option and that has been a bit of a hassle - it's not that powerful and ends up getting dirty from cooking every time.

We ummed & ahhhed over this a few months ago - especially after reading all the opposing views in various Houzz discussions. I was desperate to get rid of our horrid noisy fan hanging down above a peninsula, so didn’t want to end up replacing it with something similar! I went in to the kitchen designer adamant the hob would be around the edge of the kitchen... then I saw the Neff induction hob with the integrated down-draft extractor in action at the showroom! (I’m such a sucker!) So after some cheeky negotiations (husband and kitchen company!) we are going with that. I figured a fan much closer to source can’t be a bad thing, the noise is far less ‘in your face’ as it’s not at height, the induction hob blends into the flat worktop plus you can chuck all the filter parts in the dishwasher - winner. I was mindful of some of the safety advice given on here re splashes whilst cooking if people are sat at the island; so it’s wide enough that you are very much away from the hob if you’re directly opposite the cook. But the main thing we did was offset the hob at one end of the island and are having the seating around the opposite corner at the other end. Hope that helps! :-)

my thinking was the table could be pushed flush with the island the majority of the time leaving a gap to walk past of approx 140cm. Thats with a 110cm gap between island and units, 90cm island and 90cm table. Or if you rotate the table and have it pushed with one end against the island, a 120cm table would sit 4 and leave 110cm to pass which is the same as the gap between island and units. If it was an extending table it can be rotated 90 degrees on the rare occasion more seating is required. Yes, it would mean it would probably close off that side of the room but if it's not a daily occurance? Some compromises will have to be made if you really want to fit everything in that space unfortunately.

Ive had two Bora Basics so far. Both times when purchasing ive looked at the competition and other options. If im honest the Bora represents value for money compared to those other options. Especially if you dont want an extractor in your eyeline over your island/peninsula, or a flush mounted ceiling extractor. A decent induction hob + the costs assassociated with buying and fitting a flush ceiling extractor will be at least as expensive as the Bora Pure. The fact it’s a beautiful looking bit of kit is just a bonus!! PS im now looking at my third Bora (due to a flood) and for me its still the best option. Currently trying to convince my wife we need the X Pure!

Thanks for the comments. A lot of our dealers start by placing a BORA on an Island & then see how easy they are to clean, install , how quiet they are & best yet are efficient they are at removing the grease & odours....they start placing everywhere. We are seeing more & more placed against the wall.

also if that wall is the external then you can duct straight out of the back of a BORA...
