Yes, this is travertine. It's like a French ivory swirl.

You've got a great spaced garden. I think you should pull the patio out evenly around the house and decide how much grassy area you want vs patio area. You have a lovely house that looks like light would spill out nicely to a patio in the evenings. If you wanted something different, you could always add in a pergola where the pool is - let vines grow over it and put a bench underneath.

thanks all for your input. Update:- - Moved most of the excess pots now except the ivy ones (but put those in smaller dark grey tubs instead so more discreet). - Getting a price for a new window to match the rest - Have been busy jet-washing the back garden & decking down as we are going to look at removing the big old slabs on the corner decking and putting some large slate black stepping stones around to break up all the "cat litter" ;) ha ha. Then paint the decking grey (just started a thread asking for colour advice on these). So the garage.... HELP turns out there is a paint for the uPVC if I can't replace that large monstrosity that is the fascia board, but I need advice on colours please? Really wish I had had a grey door put in now instead of black but that means the garage will have to be a combo of black & white or all black or leave all white. I don't think I can add grey can I if I have white windows and a black door???? what do you all think??

Hi The Cordyline you have planted will get a bit taller over time so you could put a hard detail around the base of it, but I'd be tempted to by three small ground cover shrubs that will tolerate the shade. Perhaps something like Hebe rakaiensis or Euonymus 'Emerald n Gold'. These will naturally spread and create a lower level of interest and just grow over the gravel area in a neat ring. They can also be pruned to keep the shape. If you wanted to go a bit more formal, you could plant a ring (square or circle) of Buxus sempervirens. Hope that helps.

I absolutely hate those trim pieces. When you are spending hundreds or thousands on tile to do a project and then finish it with these trim products it looks cheap and tacky. Plus when you are using a classic or vintage tile those shiny metal pieces or worse the cheap white plastic doesn't match. Just ruins the whole thing. I suspect builders like this kind of trim because it fast and easy to use and covers a multitude of sins. You don't have to be a particularly skilled tiler. Nor do you have to do any special cuts.
