Planning new bathroom and ensuite Argh!
Comments (19)I'm not moving or building walls, or knocking through doorways until I'm sure what I want. Living in the house while remodeling it is quite a challenge. There are very differing opinions around what size the bathrooms should be here too. Having only one door in the bedroom has massive advantages where there is no door right next to his side of the bed being a superking, and also having no door there means that any other bed, even a king could be moved to back onto that wall, tv opposite wall etc. As a main bedroom with a double bed, there isn't room for a wardrobe due to the window size, those drawers are all we have, and the rest is in suitcases ...hence my insistence of taking a chunk out of the room next door to accommodate us.... more on shelving and shoes than hanging space though. There only really needs to be a decent shower for my husband in the en-suite and carry out the "three S's" on a morning. Plumbing worries me due to the structure of the house, so I'd like to try to make a common area eg back to back on the loos to help with what will already be a nightmare, however one on the external wall already may be a good thing. I want a good sized bath but not stand alone, I want surface area around it, none of this having to reach behind or to the end or to the floor for the shampoo and perching the soap dish on the side any more. At the moment, I take a little table and place it in the middle of the bathroom floor with candles and the tablet to catch up on shows, as this is really the only time and place I get to do that! The only time I see a shower cubicle is to wash dye out of my hair. Thanks for the sounding board and ideas, good to get opinions... I'll be back with something more refined taking all into account :)...See MoreOver-garage extension (master bedroom/ensuite) making narrow room work
Comments (22)We are doing the same. weve done our build in 2 phases so weve just conpleted the single storey rear extension and about to start building the double storey in April. Although we are making our front box room bigger by taking it out over the new attached garage to make hopefully 4 double bedrooms. the room will only be 2.38m wide and around 4.3m long with a 90cm space for a shower, toilet and sink. hoping it works and the above from man about the house gives me hope it will as i plan to do something similar with a small area at the back literally for the bed and some bedside tables then a small walk through wardrobe area and then a thin ensuite. will decide where to put stud walls once the shell and floor in built so i can determine the space needed....See MoreEn-Suite sizing/layout help
Comments (78)Just thought I would update my post as the en suite is *almost finished. Only take 6 months (rolls eyes) and still a bit of cladding above the WC to finish and on the sink unit (same walnut cladding on the front) and of course I have to have a shower screen designed as it won’t take a standard shower door. Such fun. Will take some other angle pics over the weekend once it’s all tidied up and cleaned. Just struggling now with storage!! Only got a shallow space under the sink (25cm deep- 26cm at most) to put some drawers but I can’t find any. Got space on the wc side for a little bench seat with storage under so trying to work out the best colour/style that’s not too twee....See More5 bed or 4 bed - and what master/en-suite layout?
Comments (12)Do you plan to have a double bed in each room including your master? Having a 4 bedroom house, can give you the space to have a super king in your master bedroom which would balance the space out. Going with the 4 bedroom idea and having a larger master en-suite - it feels like there is a lot of empty unusable corridor space. I think this could be tweaked to make it a fabulous space... Just a brief look at your space, you have 3 wardrobes - could you make the middle one a door into the en-suite, allowing you to have a larger rectangle walk in shower opposite the bath. You could have also have drawers / dressing table on the wall as you come into the bedroom. Think about where the door to the master bedroom would be as it would ideally be balanced around the windows in the corridor. Presuming the windows are fixed. Could bedroom 2 have the door where the 5 bedroom layout is allowing more space for your bedroom door? The A/C cupboard - do you need it? Could you make it wider and smaller depth or a wardrobe for yourselves? It's a little difficult without measurements to work it all out... This is an example of the idea I suggested above. (We are towards the end of renovating our place and we changed it from 5 bed to a 4 but added an en-suite into each room. We don't miss the useless little box room!)...See MoreTani H-S
