Face-lift terraced property

Advice on how to give exterior of property a face-lift.
UPVC Panels mostly, including door as they are fairly old and let out a lot of heat, and shake when busses pass (no joke).
Have considered painting, but as first time home owner, I am unsure on longevity vs value in replacing eventually.
I also dislike the tiles, however am aware that as a mid-terrace I don't want to deviate too much from neighbours.
Any ideas will be welcome, need a good brainstorming session.

Devy, if the OP did something like you suggest it would look completely wrong for the terrace. Cleaning the fascia tiles, new windows and updates to the front garden would be in keeping with the street.

If things shake when the bus goes past if may not be resolved if you replace the window. Ask neighbours if they have the same.

If your motivation to replace windows is that the current ones are old and reaching the end of their life (they are supposed to be 20-25 years) then I say go ahead.

For me the biggest improvement would be the front garden. I would replace the path with something wider. For me big square areas of gravel just look like cat litter trays and so your should be replaced with low maintenance planting.

Agree about widening the path. I wouldn't change the facade too much, it would look odd next to your terraced neighbours. New windows might help to lift it if necessary. Maybe some suble sandstone paving vs. irritating gravel. A tall attractive plant like a bay tree in a pot next to the front door always looks welcoming. Those bushes create great screening I would try and plant something similar at right angles to your house down your side of the boundary. I also think vertical blinds look terrible, like an office. The patterned nets are equally bad. Film is much more modern if it doesn't block to much light. It depends whether you need a windown covering for privacy.

I have always bought wrecks - I love renovating: and I completely agree with overpaying for a new renovation that is rubbish and soulless: I won't even view a house that has obviously been done up by one of the many "property developers" that infest London. I can cope with anything (have rectified asbestos, removed wood chip, put back period features and replaced everything from roof to digging up a floor to install underfloor heating in the past), but my absolute nos: dodgy neighbours/road, lack of off-street parking (London), a floor plan I can do nothing with, lack of potential to add value myself. I have seen (and met) some real horrors whilst looking for houses! Also, I have to have a period house: 1930s or older.

I've just had my toilet and bathroom knocked into one big family bathroom. I got a builder in to do the work but consulted with an interior designer. The white gloss suite and furniture looks cold but her tips on use of colour helped to warm the room - especially in the evening when the spotlights are on. Unusual house, I really like it. Changing the windows will make your home much cosier and better insulated so a good move if the ones you have are old. Remove the blinds. It will improve the light. I have a big bay window and I’ve never cluttered it with nets or blinds. I like to see out. The gravelled area in the garden could be planted up. So remove the gravel, dig it over and dig in a couple of bags of garden compost. Then add some low growing spreading plants such as Aubretia, Geraniums, Erigeron, Campanula and Sedum. It will create a colourful, attractive area in the summer. Your neighbours may follow your lead!

I will rather make unified facade or totally opposite facade which very modern & contemporary, if you play the contrast right then from neighbor home will make your house shine evenmore, like a piece of modern art amongst the neighborhood

I agree with Angie. If your house is attached to your neighbours you have a social contract with them to keep a uniformity and changing this devalues the property, your neighbours and sometimes the whole street

I see idk about the social contract agreement, usually here if we bought a property it'll be all in the same facade then if you change it it the price will increase, difference market trends & law I guess
