A young family approached us to help them develop the purchased property. The client wanted to alter the design that sit better in the context of the Chislehurst Conservation area.

The brief was to create a modern, functional, ecological and yet traditional in appearance house that relates to houses present in the area
that Mock Tudor in character. The brief included a double-storey side & rear extension to open out into the deep, downhill garden with a Lounge/Kitchen/Diner and provide an additional 5-6 bedrooms with En-suits upstairs. The loft space was to be converted into a game room and gym with a bathroom and a new roof over it.

The scope also included a swimming pool in the garden and an outdoor B&B on a terrace accessible from the kitchen area. Indeed their dream house was worth
pursuing as the plot is generous in its size and the width of the the existing footprint of the building viewed from the road would remain the same as well as the building height.

The main house extension steps 4m out to the rear mainly to
allow designing spacious first-floor bedrooms with a central
communication core that leads to the loft area as well as to enlarge
front rooms of the ground floor.
Additionally to that, there is a 3m one-storey rear extension that is
to be the heart of the house with a Kitchen, Dining, Sun sitting area
opening up to terraces and a garden with sliding open elevation.
In order to accommodate a comfortable and fully functional space,
we have decided to introduce it as a light and modern extension
with a seamless glazed elevation that does not exceed the line
of neighbouring buildings, therefore, is not visible to them. It is
designed as a subservient, yet modern volume attached to the main
house volume that is consistent in keeping its character.
The property to both sides of the garden and also to the back of it
has great old trees that flank the site and secure privacy.
