The client had lived in their current home for several years and were looking to extend and remodel the house in order to expand the accommodation so that the house would better suit their requirements and lifestyle.
Set within the Conservation Area of Polloksheilds in Glasgow, our approach has been to minimise the impact of any new additions on the original house. Our proposal is, therefore, to build on top of the existing single storey rear extension with a new Master Suite and build a new single storey garage to the side.
By over cladding and redesigning the existing extension fenestration and building a large, elevated terrace, we have been able to create a coherent and unified modern architectural language to the recent additions to the original sandstone villa.
The new elevated terrace creates an external south facing family space at the same level as the kitchen allowing a better and a more sensitive transition and connection to the garden grounds at a lower level.
