Japanese Garden in West Acton

This medium sized family garden in Acton, West London was in desperate need of some love and attention following an extensive renovation to the house. The clients wanted to bring colour and structure into the garden as well as introducing Japanese elements to create a calming feel.

At the far end, we created a Japanese style space which was centred around the existing bamboo. This was thinned out and the lower leaves stripped back to create an architectural feature. Silver grey granite gravel and stepping stones are inter-planted with Hakonechloa macra and other evergreen grasses, Azaleas and a weeping Japanese Maple. Small boulders are placed at strategic points while a stone lantern completes the Japanese look. A curved teak bench, tucked away in the corner, allows for a few moments of contemplation within this calming space.

From the house a large terrace leads to a new lawn which provides a generous area for the children to play football. The planting borders have been reshaped with existing shrubs pruned back to provide space for new perennials and grasses which bring more colour and textures into the beds.

Finally, we have introduced low voltage LED up lighters to highlight the main architectural features and bring that all important night
