Narrow Garden in Forest Hill
The challenge with this garden in Forest Hill was not only that the garden sloped away quite steeply at the end but it was how to deal with the narrow shape of the garden which was 24m long but only 4.5m wide.
To try and make the garden appear wider we ensured that materials such as decking boards ran across the width of the space. This effect was continued with the vertical fence panel slats, elongating the width of the whole garden.
We also broke the space up into different compartments with a large deck near the house for BBQs and dinning while a relaxing terrace was created at the far end of the garden to catch the best of the evening sunshine.
In between these areas, a large lawn is punctuated with planting beds. These beds include contemporary post and wire trellises which help break the space up further and draw the eye away from the length of the garden, creating a meandering path through the lawn.
The new planting will eventually provide more height which in turn will help to demarcate the different spaces within the garden further as it matures.
