Sheen Contemporary Garden
The owners of the this small garden in Sheen wanted plenty of room to relax and dine outside without compromising on the amount of planting space available. They also wanted an architectural feel to the space, both in the planting and the layout of the garden.
In response to this brief we created an angled design that enabled pockets of space to be created that could be used for dinning or sitting with a coffee whilst still giving the feeling of being surrounded by planting.
To add height we included raised beds on one side of the garden made from Corten Steel. The rusted steel not only gave the space a contemporary feel which complimented the other materials in the garden but also has a very thin profile which maximises the planting space available. Blue grey granite paving was intersected with clay pavers to subtly demarcate spaces and add a different texture at ground level.
One side of the garden receives a lot of sun and arid plants with architectural forms were used to add drama to the garden while a old, gnarled Olive tree provides an focal point with lots of character.
Low low level lighting was also added and provides a calming atmosphere and a useable outside space after dark.
