Reading Nook

The clients dimly lit stairs lead to a long, narrow but very light guest bedroom. The contrast from dark stairs to the light airy bedroom was very jarring and space in the bedroom was increasingly being used as a dumping ground.

Studio Milne suggested calving space from the guest bedroom to help balance the proportions of the room, taking it from a noticeably awkward, narrow room to a more standard dimension. Using the newly created space to create a transitional reading nook, suddenly the clients have a beautiful dedicated space to sit and read a book in addition to a bedroom that flows better.

To combat the dimness of the stairs, we installed a roof light in the ceiling of the reading nook space to let more light onto the stairwell and to bathe the area in natural light, making it a space you really do want to pick up a book and read for a bit.

Inspired by nature the unusual wallpaper really makes this place pop. The bold palette is complemented by quirky elements that stick to the theme like the gold oversized feature flower wall light, the gold zebra wall light, and gold giraffe ornament. The striking red love seat gives a sumptuous, luxurious feel, and invites you in to snuggle up into with a book.
