When we first saw this garden it was a dark and uninviting space. There was a lawn that was struggling under the trees, nowhere to sit and an uncomfortable climb up to the higher level of the garden. Our client was more than happy to lose the useless grass and was really open to our suggestions. We created a generous terrace near the house with a curved stone retaining wall that also acts as seating. We used solid sandstone blocks for steps and laid them on a gentle curve. We provided a small terrace on the higher level and put stepping stones through the woodland planting to create an alternative route. We are really pleased to have have made an asset of the light levels and height changes in this garden and created a much more open and useable space.
