“A friendly and professional practice - a pleasure to work with. Impressive timber frame design knowledge and excellent communication made this project an absolute joy - we hope to work with you again soon. So successful was this partnership that we've been jointly shortlisted for 'Best Oak Frame' at the Build It Awards 2014 - fingers crossed! Photo Credits: van Ellen + Sheryn”

“A really outstanding business. We used the team at Woodford to help us update an old Rectory we had purchased. Gavin developed the new design for our kitchen, en-suite master bedroom and two other bathrooms. He picked up very cleverly on existing design elements of the original Georgian rectory and incorporated these into a modern but appropriate twist for the new designs. We ended up following all Sarah's proposals for flooring, wall colours, kitchen & bathroom fixtures & fittings. She also developed beautiful ideas for curtains and roman-blinds and was able to recommend a great local company who provided the fabrication (and who did a really good job on this). In summary, their advice and professionalism was wide-ranging, great value-for-money and time-generous. Gavin & Sarah and the team at Woodford absolutely exceeded our expectations.”

“Our restoration project evolved into a very special experience for all the team involved. Kirsty Curnow Bailey was recommended to us by a local buildings surveyor and we arranged an initial 2 hour meeting. The 'cost' to us was a donation to Kirsty's favourite charity. We gelled almost immediately and the journey began. We were involved at every part of the design stage and our ideas were blended with Kirsty's practicality and imagination. She lead the negotiations with the National Park planners and the conservation officer with great professionalism. She introduced us to two building companies and we were pleased to award the job to RM Builders in Tavistock. I year later the works began. The restoration took 16 months and involved a complete reroofing , new external lime render, major lath and plaster internal restoration and a full replumb and rewire. Kirsty was ever-present and chaired site meetings every 2 weeks. The budget was observed closely and contingency added at 2 different stages. Underground drainage works were a major additional cost and could not have been fully predicted at the outset. The build quality was exactly as requested and Kirsty was adamant that the planned standards were fully met. Discoveries on the way included a 1500 carved granite fireplace in the main room, finding a 3rd staircase inside a 5 foot rubble wall and opening up the blocked cross passage in the centre of the house. The oldest timbers exposed during the works date back to the 1300's! Kirsty was pivotal in returning our home to its current condition, blending very old with contemporary and very modern. We are delighted with the result and we would recommend Living Space Architects to any prospective clients. Everything now works 100%, the building breathes again and will be on track for the next 100yrs for sure. Thanks Kirsty Geoff and Sue”

“Huge thanks to Luke and Matt for providing first class designs and advice for our projects. We have used HMAD on 2 separate occasions, both projects involving listed buildings in conservation areas, and their help and knowledge within this field was invaluable. We particularly loved the 3D virtual models which gave us an amazing insight into what the finished building would look like.”

“Our starting point was deciding we needed to re-build our 1950’s single skin, add-on extension. ( The kitchen was colder than in the fridge in winter!) It also needed to sit well with our old cob house. Phil was great as he helped us remodel both our design ideas, as well as our new extension. Phil guided us through a process that we had already done a lot of thinking about. He set us tasks to consider our design, sketching ideas, looking at materials and finishes. As a result, we covered a wall with images, drawings and colours. He then took the ideas we had, developed, improved and enhanced them…definitely a more elegant solution! Phil had the ability to find answers to problems that actually added to the design, e.g., our glazed end truss and the window tray enabling a higher ceiling height. He was also great fun to work with. He helpfully answered streams of questions from first time self-builders (that must sometimes have been blindingly obvious to him), with patience, helpful diagrams and many cups of tea! Working with an architect is a partnership, one where listening and understanding is key for both parties. Our advice…pick an architect you can relate too and enjoy working with. They will probably provide solutions that challenge your thinking, but more importantly for us, build on, and improve your own ideas.”

“Kate was excellent and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for an architect. She met me and we discussed my ideas. She spent a day measuring my house and drew up existing plans and plans of possible ideas which we discussed and she further refined my preferred option. She listened carefully to my wishes and patiently answered my questions (there were many as I’d never done anything like this before!) Her vision was amazing and what she came up with is brilliant - so much better than I’d ever thought possible. She has transformed my home from a 3 bedroom house (2 doubles and a box room) to one with 4 double bedrooms and character, and a large family space downstairs that’s great for entertaining too. The unusual shaped patio (pictured) also works really well, Many friends who have visited have commented on how well she’s used the existing space and transformed it. Kate also sorted out all the paperwork for planning permission and met the planner with me on site, which I have no doubt helped getting approval. And she advised on materials, e.g. for the cladding. Her price was very reasonable too. I will be forever grateful to Kate for what she helped me achieve for my home. Thanks, Kate!”
