Dennis Hellyar Architects
Architects in Exton, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars13 January 2016
“I cannot recommend Dennis Hellyar architects highly enough. This was a bereft and unloved property in poor condition in need of considerable attention. DHA reviewed, and saw potential with an imaginative, bold scheme (perhaps too bold for some). Their enthusiasm and imagination carried all before it, and now we are the proud owners of an exciting and remarkable space at the heart of the city. Being new to renovations, we were heavily reliant on the team put together by DHA and I now believe our confidence in them was well placed. DHA was the fulcrum of the team, keeping a weather eye on progress, quality and costs. Above all their attention to detail proved the key to a quality result. The firm has an enormous wealth of experience covering domestic and commercial work and it was evident this was brought to bear in the job. In particular, DHA went the extra mile to make this work.”

“Proctor Watts Cole Rutter provided a complete architectural service for our Grade II listed farm house from discussing and producing initial design ideas and dealing with planning and conservation issues to fully project managing the job”
Alasdair Robertson Architecture
Architects in Exton, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars31 May 2018
“Mr Robertson was worth every penny! He was instrumental in guiding us through many hoops when it came to renovating our listed cottage. He was able to give us good ideas and took the heat out of all the overwhelming paperwork that was essential for the job. He liaised with Exmoor Park and was able to deal with any hiccups in a calm and professional way. He was always polite and explained things to us in layman terms when necessary. Mr Robertson worked to our finances and was always "on the case" as it were. Without him, the cottage would not look as stunning as it is today.”
New Space Architecture
Architects in Exton, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars26 April 2023
“We were recommended New Space by a friend and they were brilliant from start to finish. We wanted another bedroom for our youngest daughter and with limited space around the house we didn't know how we could do it without moving. New Space suggested we converted our loft and came up with an incredible design which allowed us to have a new bedroom and en-suite in the loft. They made the process so simple, as well as fun and their drawings were so clear and detailed the builder was really happy.”

“Our restoration project evolved into a very special experience for all the team involved. Kirsty Curnow Bailey was recommended to us by a local buildings surveyor and we arranged an initial 2 hour meeting. The 'cost' to us was a donation to Kirsty's favourite charity. We gelled almost immediately and the journey began. We were involved at every part of the design stage and our ideas were blended with Kirsty's practicality and imagination. She lead the negotiations with the National Park planners and the conservation officer with great professionalism. She introduced us to two building companies and we were pleased to award the job to RM Builders in Tavistock. I year later the works began. The restoration took 16 months and involved a complete reroofing , new external lime render, major lath and plaster internal restoration and a full replumb and rewire. Kirsty was ever-present and chaired site meetings every 2 weeks. The budget was observed closely and contingency added at 2 different stages. Underground drainage works were a major additional cost and could not have been fully predicted at the outset. The build quality was exactly as requested and Kirsty was adamant that the planned standards were fully met. Discoveries on the way included a 1500 carved granite fireplace in the main room, finding a 3rd staircase inside a 5 foot rubble wall and opening up the blocked cross passage in the centre of the house. The oldest timbers exposed during the works date back to the 1300's! Kirsty was pivotal in returning our home to its current condition, blending very old with contemporary and very modern. We are delighted with the result and we would recommend Living Space Architects to any prospective clients. Everything now works 100%, the building breathes again and will be on track for the next 100yrs for sure. Thanks Kirsty Geoff and Sue”

“Huge thanks to Luke and Matt for providing first class designs and advice for our projects. We have used HMAD on 2 separate occasions, both projects involving listed buildings in conservation areas, and their help and knowledge within this field was invaluable. We particularly loved the 3D virtual models which gave us an amazing insight into what the finished building would look like.”

“We needed an extension annexe for my daughter & husband to blend in with the original late 18th century farm building. An added problem was the steep slope of the ground and limited space. Sam came up with a superb design that so perfectly matched the old building that the new extension looks like it was part of the original building, while the interior is bright and modern. Highly delighted. Helen Hollick Chittlehamholt”
Lawrence Duck Architecture
Architects in Exton, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars15 August 2018
“I had a great result from working with Lawrence on my basement flat extension and outhouse building project. Lawrence understood the brief fully and undertook detailed plans that were clear and representative. The whole experience was very collaborative, especially on the design and planning process. Lawrence handled all of the planning application and saved me a lot of time and worry about this. The result is a highly attractive, modern, yet complimentary extension and outhouse and I could not recommend him more.”

“A young company. And perhaps because of their relative youth as well, they showed a refreshingly high level of openness and willingness to try out ideas I threw at them. I am not a mainstream client and they accommodated my quirky ideas with great professionalism. They were not averse to using unusual materials and They designed for me an extensive timber framed studio for painting, photography and other creative work within the grounds of my property, replacing a large boat building workshop/garage. They followed my brief well and added more ideas to my vision. The building team they recommended was also a young team who were exceptional too. It is now a regular venue opened it to the public under the county wide Open Studios program. From beginning to end, they maintained a close watch on the project and helped me realise my vision and a lovely working environment. I love it and most visitors do too. It is lovingly known as the Tin Shed Studio.”
