The finished result exceeded expectation and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to others. Worth every penny. We continue to enjoy our oasis of a garden he was integral in creating.
Iron Butterfly Design
Landscape Architects and Garden Designers in Failand, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars11 July 2015
Claire of Iron Butterfly Design is an exceptional garden designer with a fabulous eye for detail as well as deep knowledge and expertise about plants. She is clearly passionate about her work and this shines through in her work ethic and dedication to the job. We were very fortunate to find Claire last year (our garden is the Childs Hill courtyard garden featured on her website) when we were doing major renovation work and she immediately stood out from other garden designers we interviewed . Not only was her fee very reasonable, she was also happy to work to our budget and tailor the project to our requirements. She came up with a fantastic design that would work in our tricky awkward-shaped garden and she was patient when explaining things to us (complete garden novices). She was always respectful of our preferences while at the same time not being afraid to give advice and feedback. Claire sourced and spec-ed hard and soft landscaping materials for us, designed custom built-in storage benches and presented her designs beautifully, with great attention to detail. She was 100% reliable and punctual, very resourceful in finding alternatives if we asked her to, and very flexible. She was also very considerate of our house and ensured that it remained clean - no mean feat when carrying plants, compost etc through the living room! Claire totally transformed our back garden from a drab and depressing space to a beautiful zen-like courtyard retreat. It is now our favourite space in the house. Claire is now based in Bristol but lucky for us, she still recently found the time to come back all the way to London to do some maintenance work on our garden, as well as transform our front garden too ! We think her willingness to go the extra mile says it all. Friends and family who come to visit always ask us who designed our garden. Not only is Claire a talented, reliable and hardworking garden designer, she's also a lovely, friendly and approachable person! We can't recommend her highly enough.

Paul and his team at Green & Gorgeous have been maintaining and improving our garden since September 2007. We have employed them on a weekly basis for over 7 years. As well as maintenance they have taken on hard landscaping and design projects for us. The team are personable, knowledgeable, efficient and proactive. I am so proud of our garden, it always looks tidy and is stunning when in bloom thanks to G&G - I would highly recommend their services.
Kylie Johnson Garden Design
Landscape Architects and Garden Designers in Failand, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars3 July 2020
Kylie offered a bespoke service of exceptional design and quality. After listening to how we wanted our garden to look and function , she took note of plants and colour combinations. Once the design was agreed she liaised with the hard landscaping team and coordinated all aspects of the work. We were extremely pleased with final completed garden and would be happy to recommend her work to other clients.
Eliza Gray Gardens
Landscape Architects and Garden Designers in Failand, Somerset
Average rating: 4 out of 5 stars3 July 2016
Eliza took a hugely positive and encouraging approach to her garden design work, and was a pleasure to work with. The project had two stages: initial and final, both of which were quoted in advance for price and timescales, and were delivered to the price and on time. The result was highly imaginative and interesting, and our garden attracts praise from everyone who visits us. We are still pleased with what we have and it has stood the test of time. We were recommended a choice of two contractors, and we got quotes from both and chose one of them. The implementation was good, but was let down by taking a very long time and poor pointing on the paving. A lot of this was caused by the weather (sustained torrential rain) and was really outside of Eliza's control. If there was anything that was less than perfect, it was the choice of some of the plants and their location. There were some tall plants that we ultimately failed to keep standing upright because of the wind (we are at the top of a hill). We had been hoping for more all year round plants and less that die down in the winter, but we knew very little at the time, and have since altered the mix a bit. However, we remain fully satisfied with the bit that is difficult to change, namely the hard landscaping.
Nicola Greaves Design
Landscape Architects and Garden Designers in Failand, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars12 January 2017
Nicola is an excellent, highly creative Landscape Architect, who was able to take a very complicated and unusual brief and create inspired and beautiful designs. Our project is a recreation of an historic garden, which is part of the University of Bristol. Although not a strict restoration, we wanted to return some of the original features and layout to the garden, but also create a space which worked for the students and public who will use the garden. Throughout the whole process, Nicola has worked closely with us on all parts of the design and implementation, always being available with advice and hands-on help when needed. She is friendly, personable and a good communicator. and takes the time to make her process accessible, so we have felt able to contribute to the overall design. Nicola's flexibility and quick thinking have been invaluable, as our project has many moving parts, and she has been able to adapt and give us options to suit our needs as the brief has changed along the way. It's great to be able to work with someone who has such thorough and detailed knowledge of the design process, and understands the challenges of working with public spaces in a heritage setting. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Nicola for work on any type of project, she is a pleasure to work with.
Artisan Landscapes
Landscape Architects and Garden Designers in Failand, Somerset
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars17 January 2020
We are very pleased that we chose Artisan to remodel our garden. Artisan's design addressed our requirements and improved the garden both aesthetically and practically. We chose an oak frame and kebony for the deck, with porcelain paving and reclaimed local stone facing for the retaining wall. Artisan's design and excellent craftsmanship shows these materials off well. The planting scheme was also very well considered and executed. It has been a delight to see it emerge and flower over the last year.. All the Artisan staff were enthusiastic, tidy, considerate of us, our neighbours and our neighbourhood. The project was very well managed and ran in accordance with the project plan and staged payment scheme. Communication was good and there were regular progress meetings throughout the work. Minor concerns were addressed promptly. The project was completed to the cost agreed at the outset. We are delighted with the result.
Rennie Landscape Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars21 October 2021
Isabel was instrumental in the successful design of several projects across Bournemouth University including the award winning buildings: Bournemouth Gateway Building & Poole Gateway Building as well as the linking landscaping across the Talbot Campus. The professionalism and huge design experience at Rennie Landscape Design is abundant. I'd particularly highlight the positives of great listening skills and the ability to implement and coordinate complicated design issues and changes due to budget amendments. Great work!
