Newbie- need help with lounge feature wall pls!

Hi

I really want a grey toned lounge. I have an open plan living and dining room separated by an archway. I want to have the grey wallpaper in the pic as a feature wall (with white fireplace and inset silver gas fire shown). Surround is plain white. Should the rest of the walls be painted a white shade so the room is not too dark? Also want spot lights across the ceiling above the feature wall- which are the best spotlights to get?

Other info

- patio door curtains? I want grey string ones from john lewis as shown in pic.
- window seat in lounge - do I keep it?
- any view on mercury mirror as shown or would a gold one look good against that wallpaper?
- white Venetian blinds in lounge

Re the paint colour I wouldn't recommend white it will be very stark, you need something warmer with possibly a taupe or heather tone, this will work well with your scheme.
Re the spot lights, you can go for energy efficient LED's, they come in white or warm white. The warm white give off a warmer light, similar to what we are used to from our traditional light bulbs. The warm whites vary hugely from brand to brand, so view them before buying them. I would recommend a dimmer switch so you can control the amount of light. Not all fittings are suitable for dimming.
Re the mirror I wouldn't put gold as you have a chrome fire surround. But burnished metals are perfect.

Thanks very much for making the time to comment really helpful. Off to find spotlights tomorrow so will keep an eye out for warm.

Re heather tones, do you mean a white shade with a hint of?

Sneaky thing, not sharing the rug with us! But you're right, the colours are v difficult; the pink is wrong -- if it were terracotta I think it'd be great. The fireplace space: of course, if you have a millionaire to schmooze, a great piece of sculpture. My go-to instead of sculpture is tree branches, from the year's winter pruning. Not funny sticky things bought from a shop, something you find that you think is a beautiful shape, art from nature just as it is. In a floor vase with a narrow neck. Can you get out into the country, or a big park, at pruning time? A real branch can last pretty well forever, you don't need to do it every year.

Wow, you have done a great job already with your kitchen. You have had so many great ideas re. the wall there isn't anything on that I could add. To solve the problem of the chairs hitting the wall I would either opt for a huge floor to ceiling mirror which would encourage one and all to be careful when leaving their seat or my preferred option would be to replace the chairs on that side with a bench. I'd cover the bench in either shabby chic cushions or a deer or sheepskin rug for comfort and I'd play with table decor. Get chair covers for the redundant chairs and use them in the bedrooms - one in each corner. Then for formal dinner parties or for when the table is extended you simply remove the covers and add them to the table and you can still use the bench if the table is extended.

Agree with adding some colour. At the moment everything is very dark and bitty, I would paint the doors the same colour as the walls, and add a feature wall around the fireplace - if you like wallpaper use that, or (my preference only) a coloured feature wall, and pick up this colour in the cushions and a rug. Try and get some pattern if not wallpaper, then in the rug. Could you change the tv table? That does seem to dominate that corner - maybe a much smaller table, possibly glass or white to fade into the wall. You could use any colour, but not too strong - maybe coral, or as suggested duck egg blue. Let us know what you do.

I would agree with Divine Design. Select a warm off white or soft taupe to tone in with the wall paper. It's hard to recommend online as you need to see how the light is in the room. Try and get some large paint swatches. Re; mirror definitely not gold. I would search out some other options for sheer door curtains that are a little more glam.
