Floors before or after fitting kitchen units
Comments (23)hi all. please let me start by apologising for the messy state of the temporary kitchen photos I've attached. it's still a building site. arghhhhhhhhh. having an L shaped kitchen and island installed soon. my question is. the layout will be similar to the current temp layout in the pictures. back wall will be floor to celing units with American fridge freezer. other Wall will be worktop with floor and wall units. large 2.8m long Island that will bridge kitchen (tiled) and family room (wood) floors. I was planning to tile first but with the island how can you be sure that the tiles will be symmetrical around it? sure you could move the island a few inches one way or the other but there's no gaurentee that the walkway will look symmetrical. best to tile after to get joins and ground lines where they look best? also the builder put down t&g 22mm chipboard on joists in kitchen. will need to put some sort of cement board over to tile to but this will mean the finished floor height will be slightly higher than the rest of the house. any issues with this? thanks all...See MoreDo I paint my old kitchen cabinets?
Comments (6)Hello - I say 'go for it' we had our kitchen cupboards spray painted from wood veneer to light teal - ish - and it really made an improvement. The guys took the doors off and sprayed the front and sides in the garden - the inside is still wood and you don't notice it all - but up to you. They also sprayed the end panels in situ. It was flawless - no brush marks- and we were really pleased with it and if you're feeling really reckless you could get new handles too! This was about eight years ago - but I think the total was about £600 including paint and the spray gun ( the decorators had never done anything like that before and didn't have the gun). It would be loads cheaper if you did it yourself....See MoreCan't make my kitchen fit! Any kitchen designers?
Comments (6)Sorry, I should have explained a little bit more. These are old units that I am simply moving. They are in very good condition. I have no problem with abandoning or not using some of the units. @ Jonathan that looks good. My intention is to get a 2400mm island as well. However, need to get these in first! @ Ellie I will do so when I have a chance a little later on! Thank you. The diagram I put up first shows the area where the units will go along with the window at the top. @rinq the larders are very tall. From memory they are approx 2.1m high. They both have openings of 1050mm for appliances. I havnt enquired about additional units but I'd much rather make the best out of what I have....See MoreCan I fit in a table and an island in our farmhouse kitchen
Comments (5)I think breaking the run of Kitchen units below the window will not look good internally.... Consider an island (900mm height) with chairs facing the kitchen, approx. 1.2m wide, of which approx. 450mm/500mm dropped to a normal table height (700mm??) so you could use your existing chairs. Or else, remove the larder and locate your existing table there and a new, slimmer larder unit between the two windows....See Morealant1000
