HELP!!! how can i improve my bedroom?????

hello.....calling anyone with design ideas:D......

basically,
my bedroom is the smallest room in the house: it has a high sleeper
with a desk and futon underneath (on the left) and a triple doored
wardrobe opposite. the problem is that the colour scheme at the minute
is red, silver and white and i absolutely HATE it!!

the w'drobe
is white, floor-to-ceiling high gloss and it gives the room a massive
lift so i want to keep it. i will also be keeping my white bed but the
red bits in it, such as the sheets and the futon, can be changed or
covered up. i cannot change the futon as it is actually a fold up
matress so i will cover it up with a white throw probably!......

as
u may have realised my room is somewhat inflexible so any colour scheme
will now have to show in the accessories such as laundry basket, photo
frames, cushions, decorative bits etc.......btw i don't really want to
be painting walls or doing extensive wallpaper unless........:D:D:D

so here's the bit that needs help......do i:

-get a load of copper accessories(which i love:).......) and keep to a white and copper scheme

-buy
some colourful goemetric or moroccan style cushions and bring out the
colours in some random accessories.....meaning rather a 'loose' colour
scheme......

??????

Hi Melanie. I would keep it painted white and go for the copper theme. I think it's a good idea to swap to blinds. I think it's important for a small room to let in as much light as possible so may consider a roller blind. If not, have a look at these.

I would add pale grey and blush pink to the scheme hence the blinds! What's opposite the window? Could you add a large copper mirror for more light and to give it a spacious feel? You could consider some good faux flowers for the window sill. For the desk a copper lamp and perhaps just a couple of accessories so as not to clutter. Can the shelf above the bed be removed? You could add some large cushions to act as a headboard. You could also add some art or stencils behind the bed to draw the eye up which should hopefully make the room feel a little larger. What's the ceiling height? Is there a pendant light as you add some interest here. Could you have a go at re-covering the futon? I seriously cannot sew but "re-covered" my garden sofa cushions which look fine from the front!

I will keep ur opinion in mind and i agree with what u say abt roller blinds. thanks for sparing ur time to find some for me;-)

As to the pale grey and blush pink, i don't really like either of those colours and i tend to go for much brighter and bolder colours!!!! thanks anyway!

Opposite the window is.....a door!! and there isn't room for another mirror.....pity, i liked that idea:(

yup i like the lamp idea...thanks:D.........will look for some cushions too. i'm not sure abt wall stickers as they can look a bit 'tacky'....??? btw the ceiling height is around 9 ft but i have a small light so i won't bash my head on it when i get into bed!!!!!!!!!!!

yup i will try and re-cover my futon!!! do u reckon white then??

Hi there, I'd say you've made a great start with Cornforth White because it's such a lovely calming and understated grey colour. It also means you can go pretty much any way colour wise. If you fancy keeping the room relatively neutral, opt for a relatively simple fabric for the curtains... Hi there The best person to help you is a trained designer who can stand with you in the loft and go through your requirements point by point. In order to design well it's important to have a good understanding of the space. What is the Available headroom and slope? How the light comes in? What is your budget? What's going on in the rest of the house? Does the space as designed flow? How tall are you? How physically fit are you? Do you have young children? Where will the ironing board be? Do you like ironing? etc The person who knows the answers to the questions above will come up with a better design than the person who does not know. You could put bedside table next to the wall on the left and install a shelf above the heater and that can be your bedside on the right side. The room will look more balanced with the bed in the middle. Or if you can position bed to face your built in wardrobe. Either way you need to address the window covering. If you can find a heavy curtain and bedspread in the same fabric and hang curtain directly under the cornice and twice as wide as your window, that will give you the height and balance the window size and by matching fabric you will have continuity and avoid miss matching colours and patterns.

Bad choice of colours then :) you could try some teal or green accents instead?

I meant a stencil you paint rather than a decal as was thinking art might fall off the wall during the night but you could look at a canvas which wouldn't cause you any injury! You did mention geometric though so you could do something like this. If you google images of geometric patterns on walls there are loads of ideas. Yes I'd go white for the futon and then add colour/pattern with a cushion and throw

sorry i haven't got an ideabook- will try later. if it helps, i like really modern stuff, geometric patterns, and generally go for more of a 'comtempory' style:)

I'm not sure how much money you have to spend, so a cheap option for the blind is to buy a white one and then hand print a geometric pattern on yourself. I've just spent the morning looking at roller blinds and anything with a pattern already on it is about twice the price of a plain blind. Also if you print the pattern yourself you can get the exact colours you want. good luck

I suggest your stick to white walls and use copper (it would definitely add glamour to your room) through light fixtures, mirror, decorative items such as a vase and then use burnt orange and yellow in cushions and possibly throw to add a sense of warmth and welcoming feeling to the spice. The colours will spice up the space.

If you do just stick to that then add different textures for cushion, throw etc but also a couple of accessories. There are textured geo vases around ATM which you may like and also copper cushions. I know I suggested flowers before but a plant or good faux stems (I like Cox and Cox eucalyptus which are very simple) will give a lift to the scheme. Good luck in whatever you decide

Thanks J&G Design Studio and minnie101, i like the idea of adding some colour in accessories.....

Saw a lovely copper geo vase today that i cld find a home for??! ....okay, i'll have a look at plants as that sounds good.

Have found a geo copper sticker that i thought wld look cool around the door. What do u reckon?? There is only abt 1/2 metre either side of the door if u SWIM.
