Banquette table

I am looking for a table similar to this one in size and base shape. Ideally I'd like the table to be 48"x30", but I could go up to 48x36 if necessary.
Did you have this one custom made? Source?

It was an Amish made table. Try Amish Tables, there are many sources.

I agree with Jonathan that removing the chimney breast would significantly increase your options for the room. I would go one step further and look into removing the small wall which separates the kitchen and dining room; I have attached a very crude annotation to your sketch to show how this would look. I personally wouldn't go for French doors if the current back door is retained. A typical worktop height is 90cm so you could place units (a sink?) in front of the window and have a small 20cm drop to the windowsill (ideal for growing herbs). If you don't want units in front you could build a window seat (approx. 50 cm high) with storage underneath. A good estate agent should be able to tell you if your proposals would devalue the property. If I was buying it I would see a larger kitchen/diner and downstairs toilet a plus. Your current layout doesn't give you any dedicated storage but your proposals would. There would be space to store coats in the downstairs WC and, if you place the door in the middle of the room, you could have floor-ceiling 60cm deep storage in the rear hall (shown in red). Garden storage might make more sense but if your bike is very expensive then I can see why you might wish to keep it indoors.

Hello Jessica Mellor, It is difficult to visualise sometimes when the layout in open plan like that. I agree a 3D could be a great idea. I complete a lot of 3D packages that help people with this exact dilemma. I understand the importance of wanting to get it right when it is such a large investment. We can also show a few variations with in your 3D images - this means you can try several options on the layout of your space for example, or you can make changes to try several paint options, styles etc. This is an example of a project we have recently done. Before, 3D and after. In order to make the space multi-functional it will depend on the furniture chosen and the flexibility. A table that you can keep out of the way to enable use of the space as a play room on an everyday basis and chairs that push or fold up out the way perhaps? I hope that helps. All the best, Gina

Before you embark on a major and expensive overhaul can I just ask if you/your family are using this new lounge area all the time now? Has it taken over from the main living room at the front of the house? It looks great as it is but you could try a quick furniture change that will cost peanuts compared to what you are considering. If you move the dining table into the lounge area ( lengthways) but keep the corner sofa you could view the TV from both the sofa and the dining table. You could then put the blue sofa in the area where you are thinking of putting the banquette seating. The TV could even be moved to this area instead, especially if its not where you settle down for the night you watch TV, but a secondary living space . As I say it depends on how you use and zone the areas but it might be worth a quick shuffle of the exiting furniture to see if it's practical for you.
