Thanks ever so much for all the input. Sadly an outward opening or sliding door is not an option due to the position of other walls/doors etc outside the bathroom. Theoretically the toilet could swap positions with the shower, however this would mean having a really tiny sink and as we spend a good deal more time using the sink than the shower and I need storage too, I think this would prove a compromise too far. we've had a measure and have found a pivot/in-fold door which looks like it fits the bill if we move the toilet right over. Hi there, It's a lovely space and I am sure there are lots of options as mentioned already by Karen above. How would you like to use the island? Is it more for the aesthetic or do you want it for people to sit / perch at? Islands tend to lose a lot of storage if you want people to be able to sit at them, which necessitates the need for more wall cabinets etc but if you can use the 'back side' for more occasional items then the wall restrictions may be less of an issue. What sort of style are you thinking of going for? Open shelves can look fabulous and a great way of storing items that are used day in, day out. They can also be very budget friendly in comparison to wall cabinets. Have you considered banquette seating for the table, opposed to using all chairs? It tends to be quite space saving and quite versatile too. Best wishes Claire

Have you thought about adding a window seat as the window is quite big and low. It would be lovely to sit there when its raining or sunny and curl up with a book. Its definitely a feature you could leverage and make it into a cute little reading nook. I agree with one of the comments above to remove both radiators and replace the one to the left with something more modern and longer. On the right hand wall I would add some pictures and a narrow bookshelf on the smaller wall. Or if you want to take it one step further is to get a Joiner build a window seat with some shelves on the right wall, because the wall is angled it might be tricky to get an off the market shelf to fit there.

In order to future proof the home, can i suggest one of two things:- You have really great size reception rooms, and an extension could be good, although, not strictly necessary. The kitchen is too small, so:- 1.) Knock through from kitchen to dining room and have it open plan, creating a good kitchen/ family / dining room. The above requires no additional extension at all. Or, 2.) Plan for an extension by upgrading to a Utility area, downstairs loo etc. Add a Kitchen that will suffice for the future with a view to extending later. Finally, if you went down that route, have a permitted development 3m extension and get back the Family room and dining area that you wanted. My top tip, is never just design a room then move to another..................look at the whole house and do it in stages. Very few people in reality can have everything at once, however, if you plan it carefully enough, you will not need to undo what you've already done, when you do extend.
