Help with bedroom furniture

Hi all,

I've found a bedroom I love (the master in this photostory http://www.homebunch.com/timeless-designed-house/).

My room is a basic box, no crown moulding, and only one door. I’m just looking to copy the general style.

I have a similar floor, bed (though mine is buttoned), bedding and mirror. My walls are a similar colour (mine slightly less grey than theirs), and my trim and door is white. This has been a happy accident, I didn’t really have a plan until I found that inspiration on-line. It’s the right blend of light and dark for me. I like the rug, but won’t do hide so that’s another change.

I can get espresso brown bedside tables, I’m just not sure what colour wardrobe to go for? Theirs is a built in behind a white door. Mine would be freestanding, and would be on the wall opposite the bed and the bedside tables. So, should I get white or dark wood for the wardrobes? They will cover 2.5 m of wall space so quite dominating. I’m worried it might look like two rooms if I don’t match the bedside tables? I also have gold curtains I really want to keep.

Hi avated, The biggest issue I see with your room is that furniture and decor don't match the room. The furniture looks quite luxurious but the room itself looks quite cottage-y. The mahogany coloured furniture looks fine and goes really well with the bedding and table lamps, but whats letting the room down is the colour of the walls and the tiny window behind the bed. I would suggest taking inspiration from the bedding for the rest of the room. Because the room has three windows I would block off the one behind the bed. I would paint the room a much richer colour and I would take it all the way up the angled part of the wall. I would get rid of the existing wall lights on that side of the room and just have lamps. I agree that the bedside tables could be bigger but you could also just add more accessories to that side like large plants. I would have the back wall the same colour as the rest of the room because a feature wall would only bring attention to angular shape of the room, some large artworks above the bed would work much better. Because the room is very big I would add a rug to break up floor a little and I would also add a bench to the end of the bed....

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I think one of the rooms might well end up with green accents, but I don't think I would like green furniture - would prefer something neutral so that if we wanted to change the colour scheme in the future we could easily without having to replace the furniture. I suspect the other (master) bedroom will end up a more coastal colour scheme. @Sonia, thank you I had been looking at the Cotswold Company so that's good to hear their stuff might work quite nicely. Sadly we don't live that close to any of their stores and I tend to like to see furniture in the flesh but perhaps we'll have to make a trek. Would still be interested to hear what wood types/colours would work best as I don't really like all matching furniture in a room, so I suspect we'll want to have various different items in each of the two bedrooms,.

Hi, In a bedroom, the bed should be in a commanding position which means you should be able to see who's coming in to the room. For that reason, you should place the bed on the wall opposite to the door and place your desk either on one side of the bed or under the window if there is enough space. Bookshelf can go on one side of the bed. Since it is a rectangular room, you might get a bit restricted with the space available. Hope it helps. Neha
