Is there stone on the sides of the fireplace to the floor?

Not sure if we should stone the sides of the fireplace and put the bench next to the stone or put the bench in place and then stone around the bench. Any suggestions?

We did install stone to the floor. That way if the benches are ever removed there will be no issue trying to source stone to match.

Not sure what your vision is that underlies your question. I don't feel like the stone work is outdated. It would seem a better investment to remove the popcorn texture on the ceiling, and change out the flooring (e.g., hardwoods, etc) to update the space. I would leave the stone fireplace. The stone and mantle are quite nice and versatile. If you just simply do not like stone, then that is a different matter. You could do something like a modern or natural tile, rustic brick pavers, or other depending on your preferences. Even so, I would still consider updating the flooring and removing the ceiling texture. Just an opinion.

I would highlight two features; firstly, two adjustable low voltage down-lights in the ceiling to highlight the picture, secondly, two low voltage floor adjustable up-lights to accentuate the columns of the fireplace. Best regards, Mike Lander, Director, Ensoul

Not something with which I have any personal experience as it is a pretty niche requirement, so I'd start with a google search and speak to a few companies to get a feel for them. I'd certainly recommend getting references and perhaps going and seeing some of their installations and talking to previous customers. No doubt other Houzzers will be able to advise too!

Yes. But with built-ins the crown molding should continue along the bookcases too, so closing off a small section of the top won't look bad. If you don't want to go all the way up, close off the top section, flush with the chimney and column, so your crown molding goes in a straight line. 2. No gaps. But you shelving will need to be a bit deeper then the chimney, because you don't want your books sticking out. If you want some more space between your mantle and the books, have the builder extend the chimney wall sideways, see example: If you want your built-ins recessed, the chimney should be filled out.. I would suggest a wider mantle base, from unit to unit, because these little carpet corners will most likely look off.. 3. Have a little less shelves where you want to mount your tv. Pop up? That would be a waste of the cabinet below. And doors at that height won't look great too. Have some doors on the lowest section, to balance out the visuals of 'filling' and 'furniture'. 4. The same color as your doors, trim, mantle. White. There will be enough color in them once they're filled.
