What’s the brightest colour you’d use in your home?

So far, 2018 has been the year of colour – vibrant reds and ultra violet aren’t just hints in our textiles anymore, but full-blown wall colours, furniture shades and so much more.

Are you thinking about incorporating colour in your home, or are you already there? What’s the brightest colour you’d use? We’d love to see some examples!

Red – the redder the better

Green – earthy tones bring the outside in

Blue – they’re cool, calm and collected

Purple – I’m not afraid of anything

Other – give me more colour!

No thanks – I’ll stick with whites, greys and magnolia, thank you very much

I've just designed my own walk in wardrobe after doing them for clients for years. I'm going for the "Carrie from Sex and the City" layout, where you walk through the wardrobe to the ensuite. Unfortunately, my wardrobe will not be stuffed full of designer labels though! NB it is also the pre Mr Big wardrobe, yikes, don't ever think I'd have a house big enough for that one!!!

I'm with Jo DP, I wouldn't let her within a beagle's gowl (as my mother would have said) of any home of mine either. It would depend where I was living, I'm rather taken with Abigail Ahern at the moment but more for her quirky side than her addiction to VERY dark interiors. If I had the higher ceilings and huge windows that I long for we might be able to work together without arguing too much but I have to draw the line at an entire house painted black :D Or maybe Tricia Guild who has managed to consistently produce interiors that I drool over for more than a decade now but again I think some of that is down to the stunning homes she works with. To be honest I have such strong, and varied, opinions about design that I would be a nightmare client and would probably drive most well known designers to drink and I certainly wouldn't trust the judgement of some celebrity, they'd probably drive me to drink....

Decent sized bedrooms are good at any age - as younger children size is useful to accommodate toys and as teenagers they’re more likely to spend more time in their rooms so perhaps making them large enough for a small seating area as well would be good. Similarly, a separate ‘living’ space downstairs is also useful as a play room when they’re younger & somewhere for relaxing / games room when they’re older. We’re not keen on our children having the x box in their rooms do having an extra space downstairs for that is useful. A laundry room or utility is useful for all the extra washing children create to avoid having it all around the house on wet days. Garden size possibly depends on amenities close to you (parks, etc) but personally feel that as large a garden as possible really helps with primary age children. We chose our current house partly because of the garden size & style - plenty of lawned area. Our last garden was tiered with decks & patios - great for adult socialising but nowhere big enough to kick a ball. Bathrooms - a bath in at least one with shower over (or shower attachment) for hosing children down if necessary!
