update walk in closet

I’m am updating/designing a master closet for 2 men . I would like to make this a simple so they can stay organized. My budget is $800 max!! Pictures ideas are most appreciated! This is for a home in Grosse Point Michigan. Both guys are corporate/techy and need help staying organized. IKEA seems to have a lot of great options please help with more!

I'd suggest ventilated wire shelving. Closetmaid is stocked in all/most home depot and you can use their products for linen stacks, baskets, shoe shelves, and more.

I did my huge walk in closet with the Closetmaid system and it was around $500-800, we did all the labor though. It is wire shelving. It doesn't look great, but it is very functional.

Oh wow, impressive space you have there! It's huge! And thank you - I love my house too :)) Plus I agree with you on the dining room - only good for dusting :)) Regarding wood vs carpet: we chose Engineered Character Oak in brushed oil - mainly because, having to completely renovate the house, we decided to go for underfloor heating top to bottom; and engineered wood is apparently the best type of wood to use with it. Therefore, carpeting was out for us however, even with central heating, we would've probably gone for wooden flooring and a lush rug. But that is a personal preference; as with the en-suites, I have rather strong opinions against carpet, so I don't think I'm the best person to advise you in this respect. (hmmm, now I'm starting to get what hubby means about me being high maintenance...) Sorry I couldn't help more, I'll try to do better in the future :))

I like Jonathon’s first drawing for a couple of reasons. You can have a walk in wardrobe for all the hanging clothes, which can end up looking a bit messy, and have the more traditional type of wardrobe for items that can be boxed up, such as handbags and shoes, and folded clothes / drawer items. I think a walk in wardrobe is better without a window as natural light can fade clothes, so much better to have a bright bathroom with 2 windows. Finally, as you’re building the internal walls from scratch you could look into having a pocket door system into the en suite thereby preventing a swinging door getting in the way of either the wardrobe or the shower.

Regards the wardrobe, definitely do'able as long as you watch the depth of the wardrobes. I figure you may just be able to put up a stud wall to the left of the window. You're going to have to measure carefully. Decide upon which window dressings you want, because if you're going to put up curtains you need to allow for the curtain pole to overhang the window and this needs room. Therefore, it eats in to the space for the dressing room. Alternatively, as I'm not sure that putting up a wall and a door will afford you the best use of space. You may consider the newer trendy option of a wall divider between wardrobes and bedroom. By negating the need for a door, you can bring the wall forward level with the end of the curtains, squeeze in two more smaller wardrobes adjacent to the window and the wall opposite and have a 'u'-shaped wardrobe arrangement. I think you've possibly confused bedroom 3 and bedroom 4. The plan should read like this:- Bedroom 4 is the smallest at the top of the plan. Therefore, combining bedroom 1 and bedroom 3 ( to make a dressing room ) takes up half of upstairs and leaves you with one further double and a single bedroom. You are correct, that fitting a walk-in into bedroom 1 isn't possible. It's not the best use of space. Also cutting down the amount of space and leaving the above will probably de-value the home. However, there is an alternative ( and i'm sure more than one ), the following is mine. However, it requires a large amount of alterations, and I would always recommend running plans past estate agents for comments on value, before starting anything involving losing a bedroom. The above gives you a lovely size Master Suite with En-Suite and walk in closet. It also gives a good Family Bathroom and leaves a further two Double rooms.
