Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it. I'm liking the idea of a mirror behind the toilet, I'm seeing a bit of a mirrored wall effect coming here. I'm also considering rehanging the door (thanks for the suggestion) so it opens into the utility. That would make a big difference. I like the idea of a cabinet under the sink (great way to hide pipes) but I've been worried it would make the space too cramped. Plus with the door opening into the room the sink and cabinet would take a lot of the space a person would use stepping in and shutting the door. Good news is it's actually a wooden doorframe there rather than the horrible metal frames we have in the rest of the house. I'm currently thinking of half tiling with either paint or paper (great idea thanks) on the top of the walls. Just not sure of colours. Flooring I'm thinking of something dark with warm undertones as that's what I'm going within the kitchen (North facing room plus cream cabinets I thought warm tones would be nicer). After that I have no idea. I've not yet found any cabinets so the world is my oyster. Lol way too much choice here.

I like all the above ideas but if you are feeling brave I'd go a bit further and put some colourful pattern around the room. Your basin and WC have beautiful curves so why not accentuate them with a curvy pattern? A small room can be very dramatic without being overpowering - after all you are not in there for long. Depending on your budget you could:- 1) tile all around, 2) wallpaper with a coat of clear varnish over the top to make cleaning easier, 3) paint all over with some gorgeous colour - use a washable paint such as those from Little Greene's Intelligent range, 4) get in touch with a muralist to paint you something really personal or whacky on the long wall and then tile the basin and cistern walls in white so they don't compete for attention (find a muralist at selectAmaker.com), 5) use coloured glass instead of tile and if you just want to do the sink area why not take two pieces of glass from the basin top all the way up to the ceiling! mate...i Iive in nz. in Christchurch we had a wood burning fire , where we live now..way at the top where the lions were on the weekend...no heating needed!!!! we do have double glazing and our house faces the sun, and the sun gives off heat here in the winter so it warms it all day unlike some peoples winter sun! but go with whatever is the best for your furniture . ...and budget !

If you keep the Hallway door where it is, it makes things more difficult. The toilet is best placed between lounge and Utility, so if you keep the doorway there, you would enter a long narrow space, making the basin difficult to place. Also, are you taking out the Chimney Stack?. I'd go for integrated appliances rather than stacking as you have plenty of room, and something a little like this possibly. Of course it also depends on whether or not you want access from the kitchen because of washing etc, or the Hallway because that's easier for the coats and shoes. Choice is yours.
