My kitchen is small - just under 11ft x 11ft and it was superbly designed. For the first time ever I have everything I need in an easy to reach organised space. I have a tall larder unit which is priceless and my cupboards reach back into the corners (and it's in these that I store my rarely used crockery.) This kitchen is smaller than my last but due to clever design it holds far more and I am very pleased with it (including a dishwasher, tumble dryer, washing machine.)

Divide each section into,what required below is what I have built for a client separate washing and drying with shelf above, half height hanging and deep storage shelving all adjustable, Then adjustable shelving floor to ceiling, these are about 900 mm deep and all behind closed doors, doors around 400 mm wide so as not to open out wide into the room you could fit pull out drawers into one of these sections for your shoes etc. I realise you want sliding doors!.

For many years, we had a similar set up with exercise equipment, tumble dryer, extra freezer and storage in the garage. We used garage floor paint to eliminate the dust from the floor shortly after we moved in. We just put an offcut of carpet on most of the floor, but rubber will work as well. The biggest difference to draughts etc was changing from an up and over garage door to an electric roller door. I’m sure extra insulation on walls wouldn’t hurt though.

I might be wrong but I've used Jali once a few years ago and mine was mdf as i recall it was a nightmare to paint! I also thought mdf was more stable than wood? TBH your quote sounds really good, as long as it's constructed properly I can't see it being an issue, I'd speak to your carpenter about any concerns. can you not build a stud frame for the chimney breast and use dry lining instead of mdf (although someone told me a while ago you'd never know it was mdf, whether that's true I don't know!)
