Actually Amanda, I've cooked with gas for years but now I have induction I'd never go back. The heat is instant and adjustable in just the same way as gas however the heat distribution is superior as it's more even. The other advantages are that the hob doesn't get anywhere near as hot so it's far safer, especially with young children, also cleaning is much easier as there are no bits and bobs to remove and, as the hob doesn't get hot, no burnt on residue if there are any spillages. Before I bought the hob I was concerned about heat distribution in a wok as I stir fry a lot, but I can honestly say it's been great with that too. I don't have a minimal kitchen, just a sleek counter, and personally I find the bulky Wolf hobs unattractive, but each to their own. In summary, in my opinion, gas is good but induction is better. That said, I'm not keen on this kitchen at all, sorry St James. Normally you give great advice and suggestions but here the sockets look wrong and I'm not keen on how they look on the tiling. What matters though is the clients opinion, so if they love it that's brilliant.

This is extremely large! Your problem will be that sheet materials like chipboard or mdf which would normally form the structure of the headboard come in 2440mm x 1220mm. This means you need to join it. Joining then upholstering would be unsuccessful unless you are doing it in situ. I would talk to s local upholsterer if I were you.

Wow TWO YEARS LATER and I've just solved my old but lovely furniture problem. It's all gone to the Museum of Work at Bath! Even the bentwood chairs (not Thonet!) which need work, was willingly taken because they have a volunteer cabinet maker there. I'm over the moon about this so thanks to Stuart who runs the museum and who took them. But guess what, he only lives 5 doors down from me! 5 doors in 25 months that's 5 months per house, amazing how long it's taken us to get to know the neighbours! Thanks also to everyone who came up with ideas on what to do with them.

I can't help but speculate that perhaps the reason so many houses featured are London based or more high-end properties is because most of the case studies are uploaded by architecture or design professionals who employ professional photographers to show off the finished results. These services aren't cheap and I don't imagine these companies get too many requests from owners of smaller 30's - 70's era homes, especially from outside the capital, because the homeowners won't see a return on the investment. I would have thought requesting design-savvy home owners load more of their own photo's would help bridge the gap. Perhaps on the next newsletter you can ask homeowners to consider contributing any photos of spaces they are particularly proud of?
