I am a tiler so its in my interest to persuade people to fit more tiles but I agree with the other people who are questioning why you want to do this. You can transform the room with wall paper as Kerosis suggests and if you tire of that in a few years it is easy to remedy. I always point out to people that tiles are put on the wall as a practical durable easy to clean surface and therefore it is often not necessary to put them everywhere. If you do decide to fit tiles then you should remove the paint on the walls 1st as that was only ever designed to hold itself on the walls and it doesn't matter how brilliantly your adhesive hangs onto that paint if the extra load causes the paint bond to fail then your tiles will no longer be bonded to the wall (no such problem with lightweight wallpaper :-) Terry the tiler

I've been thinking about options to cover all basis and came up with this. To allow guests to use a bath/shower the ensuite would be shared. I added a wall in the master bedroom to divide it and add privacy so guests don't have to walk into the bedroom to get to the bath/shower. The upsides are that the ensuite is larger, includes a bath and shower and has more vanity room. Also, by diving the bedroom I can add sort of a walk-in wardrobe. The downsides are that there's only one bath/shower that has to be shared and guests have to walk through the walk-in wardrobe to get to it. Also, it reduces the size of the master bedroom but it's quite a long room anyway and it would cut out the light from the windows in the bedroom. Personally I don't see these as big problems but I guess some people won't like it. Do you think this is a good idea?

Could you have a window with obscured glass or sandblasted glass? I would look into this first as lots of houses I have lived in have had the same issue with bathrooms looking directly onto neighbours properties, all have had frosted or sandblasted glass. My last house had a bathroom with no window and we didn't change it as we were there only briefly. It had pure white tiles which made it feel somewhat cold, I would avoid these. Something like a textured off white tile may be better (Porcelanosa have lots of choice). In terms of lighting, the quality of light is really important. LED's with a high CRI rating will give a much nicer light quality than cheap yellow or blue tinged ones. If you can't put in a window then perhaps hang mirrored units in the alcove and have the space packed out so that they fit flush with the walls either side. I would leave a space below them to utilise the shelf.

Minnie101 I can't leave a whole bathroom in the hall unfortunately, there's too much stuff and not enough space, if I could, there wouldn't be a problem. Travertine tiles are about 24 inches long, 12 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. They are solid rock. The whole room is to be tiled. Together they will weigh over a ton. I'm getting on a bit, so it would be very difficult to heave one of them, let alone a bunch at a time, I wish :-). I have a garage, but it's chokka. Everybody only delivers to the front door since Covid. I hate to sound so negative, but this has been on my mind for a long time, and it's really getting me down. Daisy England That's a good idea about Facebook, although It's going to be pretty nigh impossible to have someone available exactly when things are being delivered or am I missing something? Lockdown burnout :-)
