Wood works as a neutral so you don’t need to pick colours to go with it as such, you can have whatever you want. I’m assuming when you say the doors will be brown, that you mean they will also be wood? To be honest I wonder if it’s a bit early to be pinning specific paint colours down. There are thousands of colours out there, so I’d focus first on getting the more permanent things chosen - eg the kitchen, the vinyl flooring, bathroom tiles - then choosing colour schemes to go with them. Yellow all over might be a bit full on, but it entirely depends on your taste, and yellow is definitely making a comeback so you’ll find lots of inspiration pictures on Instagram/Pinterest etc.

Thankyou all for your responses. I am answering all the questions as follows: 1. The units colour is Porcelain (Howden's Elmbridge Kitchen Units). 2. The original wall colour is Dulux Ivory Lace. 3. The kitchen and utility room is East facing and the sun is in the rooms in the morning and switches to the front of the house in the afternoon. 4. As advised earlier, all of the grey variants we have tried are coming out in shades of lilac through to mauve/purple unless we go with a deep grey which is too dark for the room. 5. Any help on alternative colours which maintain the airy light feel of the rooms would be very much appreciated including creams etc. I look forward to your thoughts/suggestions.

It’s probably limewash. Practice on some other bricks before painting the most visible feature in your house, don’t forget limewash is corrosive so lots of safety goggles, gloves and dust sheets, with the window open…… and be prepared to apply 3 thin coats rather than one thick coat ….water it down significantly (3parts water to 1 part limewash).

I use Dulux paints, so I'd recommend Dulux Easy Care in brilliant white matt. Emulsions are wall paints usually in matt or silk finishes. I've not used eggshell paints, but I think they're suitable for walls and woodwork.
