Lighting Installers

Lighting is not only a necessity in any home, it can also be a great way to add style and flair to any room. Use your choice of lighting to bring a theme together, and even make it into a feature point. With all the different options available when it comes to lighting style, it can be difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. It may be a good idea to hire the services of a lighting designer or lighting consultant. A lighting designer may work with an interior designer to plan the lighting throughout your home, or can work solo to help you choose the right lighting to fit your style and design. They will carefully plan where your light fittings should be situated to light up your rooms in the best way. From lamps, chandeliers to LED lights, a lighting specialist can help you choose the right fixtures for you. More

Why is lighting design important?

Lighting effects space in a way that is not immediately obvious. A room with great architecture and furniture is enhanced with lighting. If the choice of lighting is wrong, it almost doesn’t matter how stunning the interior design is, the room will not feel inviting or comfortable. A space will feel warm and cosy with the correct lighting, which is what you want in your home, the place you live.

What does a residential lighting designer do?

A lighting designer understands the relationship between a space, lighting and the mood it creates. They will be able to assess your room and know how to use layers of light to create light and shade in a room. Working with natural light, a home lighting designer, will know how the quality of light, not just style changes the effect.

How can I use lighting manufacturers?

Lighting manufacturers can help you find or create bespoke lighting systems or pieces that you wouldn’t find anywhere else, completely suited to your space. A lighting designer may even work with a bespoke lighting manufacturer to create something unique for your home.

Often lighting manufacturers will have portfolios of previous work that you can browse through for ideas or just to see whether or not your styles and ideas and in sync. Additionally, a lighting manufacturer can restore or create replica pieces if you already have a lighting fixture that you would like to use.

Floor lamps and side lamps are great ways of adding subtle lighting when you don’t want harsh overhead lights, or light sconces on the side of the walls are ideal for traditional, more formal settings, or perhaps you could opt for more unusual sconces that can work as an illuminated wall feature? Manufacturers are often lighting specialists too, so they should be able to advise on which lighting piece would work best where in your house.

In the kitchen, pendant lighting is a popular choice to hang over the breakfast bar or dining table and undercabinet lighting is a convenient way of adding more light when preparing meals. Lighting designers and lighting manufacturers will be able to professionally install these lighting elements for you, so you won’t need to worry about wiring or positioning bulbs in the right place.

Advanced light technology is now easily installed in homes and you can have dimmers, sensors and programmable controls for your lights so that you can only use the energy you need to. Lighting manufacturers and specialists can advise you on the type of light technology you could have installed in your home and the advantages of the different systems available.

Lighting designers may work with electricians for installation and interior designers or architects in the planning stage.

Before you hire a lighting designer or specialist, you may want to consider some of these questions:
  • How long have you been a lighting designer or in the lighting business?
  • If you only install, can you recommend any good lighting manufacturers?
  • Can you work with my architect/designer on where to install lighting?
  • How many projects like mine have you completed?
  • Do you have any relevant qualifications?
  • What are the costs and what will it cover?
  • Can you give me a written estimate?
  • Do you work with electricians or are your employees trained?
  • How can I be as energy efficient as possible with my lighting?
  • Do you carry out lighting repair work?
  • Can you advise me on what bulbs are suitable and where to buy them?

Find a lighting designer or manufacturer on Houzz. Narrow your search in the Professionals section of the website to lighting designers and lighting manufacturers. You can also look through photos by style to find a design you like, then contact the lighting consultant or company that worked on it.
