Ashley Gardens, Victoria, SW1P

Huntsmore project managed the design and build of this large lateral apartment in a period mansion block in Victoria, SW1P. The property had not been renovated in the last few decades and was in need of some attention. The clients wanted to reconfigure many of the rooms, creating a dining room out of one of the reception rooms and enlarging the kitchen to incorporate a large Harvey Jones shaker style kitchen.

The property was on the forth floor of the imposing mansion block and access was an issue as the building was governed by strict management company rules. Huntsmore organised an abseil team to remove the netting on the rear skylight, then built a rear scaffold, using a pulley system to take goods in and out of the property as we could not use the building’s lifts.

Huntsmore collaborated with different suppliers throughout the entire build, even appointing a chimney engineer to reline all three chimney flues so that we could install the Chesney wood-burning stoves. The kitchen was fitted by external supplier supplier Harvey Jones, with Huntsmore co-ordinating their teams.

Huntsmore created all the joinery designs as well as project managed the carpenters to build all the cabinetry - this was the wall units in the living room, the high gloss black hallway cupboards with Victorian detailing, and the discreet storage wardrobes opposite the bedrooms.

The angled chessboard hallway floor was designed by Huntsmore and the tiles individually cut to size at the factory to give a tailor-made result. The bathrooms too were redesigned with distinct styles in each - one more traditional and the other contemporary.

Huntsmore ran the full end to end process, also liaising with and dealing with Building Control and the Freeholder’s management company.
