How do you expand an L shaped Eichler with the challenge of extending a long dark entry? Klopf Architecture's solution, to design a light filled atrium in the hallway to open up the bedroom expansion with green plants, sky lights and a glass wall. Not to mention the thoughtfulness of a blind door with wood siding similar to the rest of the home.

This 1950s 2800 sq. ft. home with great bones needed a boost into the 21st Century with updated technology, appliances and finishes. A master suite was created, bathrooms and closets opened and enlarged, and the house refocused to the rear yard where entertainment and family play occur with ease.

Featured on the cover of the June/July 2012 issue of Homes and Living magazine this interpretation of mid century modern architecture wow's you from every angle.
The front yard of the home was completely stripped away and and rebuilt from the curbside up to the home. Extensive retaining walls married with wooden stair and landing elements complement the overall look of the home.

COOL & DRY. A standing seam metal roof offers another long lasting, low-maintenance option while securing a tight building envelope. A stainless railing and slate flagstone stoop continues the cool-tone material palette. A new aluminum-frame glass door and oversized transom reveal a stunning view straight through to the back yard. Updated fixtures highlight the home’s contemporary, clean lines.

The first floor base is mostly solid, in response to the harsh Canadian winter, and is clad in layer of stone and wood. It reads heavy and rooted to the earth. As the façade lifts up and away from the grade, it is wrapped in wood and detailed as a rain-screen, which stands proudly on the stone below it.

1973 Eichler home street view. The original Eichler courtyard was enclosed and roofed years before to create a large living space with a cathedral ceiling. Along with the other professionals, our work on the project brought it up to date.
