Edge came up with a great idea for my kitchen extension. I would not have considered this particular design but we were delighted with the outcome. I was reassured by the professional advice but also consulted about all the options along the way. The project was well managed and I would recommend their services to others.

We used this company to help us remodel a tired 1930's house with lots of small dark rooms into a stunning bright and airy modern home. Their vision was fantastic adding a full height front extension to bring the stairs out of the central footprint, creating extra space and bringing light to the previously dark front spaces. This created a full height entrance hall and helped give us two extra rooms in a previously small attic space. Internally they tied all the spaces together with clever design features giving us a house where every space is used and the house is quite literally a joy to live in! They persuaded us to invest in making the external envelope as air tight and well insulated as possible and fit an MVHR system. Initially we were very sceptical but are now delighted with the thermal performance of the house both in summer and winter. They were thoroughly professional throughout dealing positively and practically with the inevitable challenges along the way. Our contractor had never done anything like this before and they supported him technically when necessary. Their clever design and attention to detail added significantly to the value of the finished property and we could never have achieved this on our own.

Having worked with Joe to develop the branding and website for ‘Place for Humans’, I gathered an in-depth understanding of how Joe works and his ethos behind his practice. One of the first things that is clear when you meet Joe is his focus on people. He makes it his mission to really understand his clients needs, so he can find real solutions to their underlying problems. He has drive, great vision and a genuine want to help people. I would highly recommend Joe & Place for Humans to help find unique answers that are suited to real lives.
Julie Richards Architecture & Design Ltd.

I appointed Julie Richards in January 2016 to carry out a complete refurbishment of the two bedroom 'Warner' style maisonette I own and rent out in Leyton, London. It was agreed the works should be completed by April at the latest, and this was achieved. The property had fallen into considerable disrepair during a lengthy tenancy of almost a decade, only fetching a low rent that reflected this state of affairs. In January 2016 the existing tenant moved out and I took this opportunity to bring the place into line with average rental prices for the area, which valuations indicated had risen a great deal since my original investment. Within a strict budget of 25k Julie's brief was, therefore, to strip the place out entirely and build it back up to a standard that would guarantee the financial return necessary to recoup the expense, whilst providing enduring value going forward. It was a given that the kitchen and bathroom would have to be completely replaced. Julie's choices were tasteful, economical and above all - with limited space - practical. All the existing decor had become too tired to be restored effectively, so Julie also designed and oversaw a complete redecoration. Of course scratching the surface brought ever greater issues: large areas of plastering coming away, and the apparent obsolescence of the electrical circuitry and aspects of the plumbing amongst them. She coped admirably with all of these things as they arose. She also showed an appreciative touch with some of the more 'period' features such as sash windows, sliding doors and wooden floorboards stripped, sanded and varnished to remarkable effect. (We never did get round to rehabilitating the bricked in hearth due to the narrow budgetary restraints, but the will was there!) The lighting design was also improved, adding to the overall feeling that my property had been transformed beyond recognition. Julie managed to incorporate these things into her scheme of work without - as I greatly feared - allowing timescale and budget to spiral out of control. She negotiated with a wide range of tradespeople directly herself, many of whom were her existing contacts. This was all a great relief to myself, having never embarked on a project of this scale before. I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss anything further.
