I think its just a satin finish. your millworker should be able to show you samples of different finishes if you are trying to do something similiar. good luck.

Hello Sean, Congratulations on your new home! One thing to decide is where do you want to go in terms of style... You have the beginnings of two looks here... One could be dramatic and moody with the painting... The other is light and more neutral.. So sticking to what you have said you'd like.. You could paint the rear wall in something like Juniper Ash from Little Greene, replace the sofa or add dark layers to blend it with a darker wall. Look at colours here and texture...Beautiful cushions.. . For the other walls another Little Greene colour that would be nice is Arquerite. Replacing the curtains to compliment the wall colour (lighter) would add to this and rug too but something bigger as current one is too small.. It doesn't want to define the space by contrasting so much with the floor... and for this I would suggest the light colour for inspiration.. Try some tester pots.. Paint onto sheets of paper and have a look at different times of the day... Consider painting the doors and architrave... If you have UPVC then you can buy plastic primer and then paint the colour you like that would compliment these.. Usually for wood it would be an eggshell.. Then have a look at the lighting... Pendant in complimentary colours... For the dining table, consider something with a glass sheet table top... You can buy the table as a whole or legs and have a top made. There are also extendable glass tables... As there is not a lot of room to play with here, it would be nice to have something that isn't solid... This then gives you the idea of more room... What about an arrangement of transparent chairs.. For limited space areas these can be fantastic.. Functional but discreet... Create a beautiful table arrangement of flowers and or a glass centrepiece... Then onto the kitchen... you may be able to add some of the colour scheme in this area too... Cupboards? Matt paint, walls, maybe a collection of inky hued cups and cutlery... : ))

You could add a number of things to help bring life to the room. You have chosen the perfect muted colour scheme that will complement lots of art work and colours. From your photos I would say you could add a large mirror above the fire place- you could go for something to complement the period of the property and fireplace or something slightly more industrial would work as it looks like you are already mixing contemporary and period with your choices of furniture and finishes. Art will be a huge help as well. Choose some large and smaller pieces to compliment the size of the room- you look like you enjoy your music and media (from the large tv and speakers) maybe some repro or original posters of favourite films? Or framed vinyl covers of you favourite albums. Pick things that you aesthetically connect with. Art is personal and should be something you enjoy every time you look at it, so pick pieces because you like them. It doesn’t need to be expensive. You could also think about a statement clock in the room as well. Lots of options I would say. Do not feel limited by a particular colour scheme with the art- go with things you enjoy looking at. For the sofa -with throws-mimic nature- stick to earthy tones grey browns you can pick up lots of cosy throws in these colours or animal Hyde type colours or actual Hyde’s...and once you have chosen your art- find cushions that are different sizes and textures (not leather) to help soften the look of the sofa and draw the eye away from its shape and on to the cushions! Or go with the nature theme and embrace the animal Hyde’s colours and it will all tie in with the leather. Of course these suggestions depend on personal preference but there are lots of ideas on houzz and pictures that can help with inspiration...hope my suggestions are of use!!

Hi, Reviving a bit of an old post here with some more thoughts. I agree with everyone that the sofa is probably best looking onto the window but having given it a try it makes the TV pretty much not visible unfortunately. I can't think of anywhere that I could place the TV that would give a good angle for the sofa in that position. (Other than pulling it out from the wall and angling it, which looked pretty poor when I tried it) Open to suggestions though. I may just have to move the sofa back a little to create slightly more room for chairs. I think if I put it right up against the wall the space will possibly be too big for conversation. In the end I've actually grown to like the eames chair and chesterfield combo so will just add one more chair now. either on the same side as the current chair or two chairs facing each other at different sides of the sofa. :) @Emily - The dinning table is further away from the kitchen in the window thats true. The alternative I think would be to shift everything up towards the bay window more and put the dinning table at the other end of the room. I think that might look a little odd since the fireplace is in the centre?

Hi. So is it a modern coastal look that you're after? In terms of practicality does the room need to cope with people coming in with with surfboards and sand everywhere etc or not?! I don't know if I'd put the console etc where you put the chairs as it seems more practical for keys post etc and maybe the sofa where you put the console or in the middle of the curved wall? Is the curved wall measurement also correct? It seems longer but could be wrong!
