How to hide a washer and drier in a kitchen?

If you haven't got a separate utility and want to hide a washing machine and tumble dryer (probably a condensor one) in the same room, any ideas on how to hide them? I know they would have to be in a deep cupboard but not sure what size cupboard and what space is needed around them? Was going to put a wall vent in if I can locate it on an outside wall to make sure it doesn't overheat.
Currently designing our kitchen and moving it to a bigger room but the tumble dryer is in the outbuilding which is quite cold so it's not ideal.
Struggling to work it all into the room as we also have an awkward corner that is 'cut off' ie the wall is angled rather than 90degrees 🙄 so we lose some standard space.

You will need it wider and deeper. Remember to allow for the pipes. Both of mine are freestanding ones which l wasn’t prepared to replace with integral ones, but we made them look integrated.

That looks great! Is it a condensor dryer you have and how do you stop all the moisture and it overheating in the cupboard? Ie is there a vent behind it?

Thank you all for your comments. Maria, I think you are quite right saying that the corner where the kitchen is situated in the drawings will get dark by mid afternoon and to add a bit of extra light to that area, we are planning to add some glass on the roof as half of it is an extension. If you look at the end of the utility room you will see that this was the original back wall of the house. The ground floor was extended by the previous owners but they put a double conservatory in order to extend which is not practical at all (too hot in the summer/too cold in winter) so we are looking to re-roof and to add some glass on the roof to allow extra light to come into the darker side of the room. We are also removing an internal wall. I am attaching the drawings of the house as it is now for your information. The current layout is quite different. As you come in from the hall into the back of the house we have quite a large dining table and after that the family seating/tv area. From here there is a wide opening to the left that takes you to what currently is a big play area and then the kitchen to the back of this. This layout is relatively new as I needed to find out if I could live with the toys so close to the kitchen and family area. What used to be the play area, a separate room at the front of the house, is now a "grown up room". The access to the house is from the front, into the hall and then you have the door that will give you access into a large room at the back of the house. I don't need (or want) the two doors showing on the drawings. To be honest at this point nothing is set in stone so the room is a blank canvas. The drawings we have are very basic and do not really reflect what we want but maybe is that we weren't clear enough when we gave our instructions to begin with and that's why I thought I should post here to get fresh ideas and then go back to the guy. As you said, this is going to be quite an investment and it needs to work now while the kids are still small but also in the future. We enjoy having friends and family over so the big open plan space will be great. I just need to make sure the layout we decide to go for is the right one. Many thanks!

We have a utility room and in there i have American sized machines. However, in the kitchen I kept ordinary sized washing machine. It sits a cupboard and has kitchen doors on it. It has a normal sized cupboard next to it with a door and then a Kitchen end panel ( breakfast bar width ) to make it look right. Therefore, you need to discuss what doors and end panels / side panels are available from the kitchen supplier to find out how it can be put together. Most kitchen suppliers do tall doors to hide integrated Fridge / Freezers and tall larder cupboards, so you just need for them to work out for you how it can be done with what they sell. I don't think it's going to be that hard ! The only thing to rember. is that if you are using a standard size washing machine and tumble dryer, they are different in depth to Integrated appliances, therefore, all cupboards will need to come out at the front to make them line up. Alternatively, to save on space, buy integrated appliances and keep all the cupboards standard depth. At the end of the day ask the Kitchen suppliers, they are the ones that are paid to solve these problems, but, yes it can be done !

Pending confirmation of where the WC can go on the other side of the Utility wall, I decided to shrink the bathroom down to make way for a better shape of utility. The OH is never interested in looking/discussing the designs but the other night, made a suggestion that would work if I can make the room slightly bigger. So now I propose my bathroom at 6' x 7'4 (posting on the other thread for Minnie) and the utility room would be 110cm deep x 7'4 wide. Keeping the original opening of that brick outer wall (currently a tall window in!) will save spending more on building work and bigger steels as well. What do ya think?? It will have a sliding door on to block out the washer/dryer noise of course... drying racks on the wall above the sink to hold pans/delicate glasses. rad for drying tea towels and anything else above it. Plus the ceilings are 2.75m high so I have lots of shelving/storage space for anything I can't fit in the kitchen. Loving it now

That's great if you can be flexible with the windows. I personally prefer option 2 but would swap the island and the dining area. A bigger utility would always be my choice. If possible, going for an integrated fridge/freezer would give you more space. I've 'guestimated' where the pillar is... could be in the totally wrong place! I am thinking tall units with double oven/fridge/freeze (built-in) on the entry wall with the pocket door. Or go for combined fridge/freezer and use one tall unit as a mini pantry cupboard which could hide away microwave & kettle. (Light Blue) Sink under the first window (can make it smaller) and then hob could also back wall if you don't want it on the island. Block up the second window potentially. Then can have more tall units by the dining table or low level with open shelves for the dining area. (Dark Purple). If you have tall units there, you can add a cupboard and have kettle etc underneath where the window used to be. Funnily enough, this is what we've planned for our kitchen. Another option, (although I know not everyone likes this style, is run the table off the island). I personally really like this design.

Do you already have the washing machine and dryer? If not, then integrated ones make it so much easier. I have an integrated dishwasher and washing machine and it’s very tidy and I chose them as the kitchen is small. Not sure if a dryer can be integrated though! This row below includes those appliances.

I have a freestanding washing machine but only bought it a few months ago before we moved as just presumed I would have a utility to put it in 🤣 oops.

It was expensive as well.

The dryer we have is also freestanding but is in the garage as it was left by the owners but its not great.

I think long term we will want to insulate the outbuilding and have a laundry room in there because I will have the 3 holiday flats above to launder for so in my own flat I could go with a built in one - for at least the tumble dryer anyway!

My dryer isn’t a condenser one. It has a pipe out of the back which goes out of the wall and then has a vent over. When it’s in use l leave the unit door open.
The depth of the unit is around 730mm and the width is 640mm, therefore you will need non standard doors. Obtaining them wasn’t a problem for me as we run a kitchen and joinery company so I had contacts with various suppliers who would offer this facility.
Having the dryer over the top of the washer was a good thing for me as it saves bending down to empty it.

thanks everyone! Yes i think i would need some sort of vent or maybe a bifold door so it wouldn't stick out into the room if I had to leave them open. Food for thought.
