A combination of herringbone oak parquet and oak boards | Wimbledon SW18
This project took place in a well loved family home in need of some refurbishment. We were tasked with a two phase project. First to thermally insulate and install a new herringbone oak parquet in the living room. And then secondly to sand and refinish the entire ground floor to the same colour.
The customers were concerned to make their living room more cosy and comfortable and decided to thermally insulate the draughty living room floor. We removed the old carpet and old subfloor. We cleaned in between the joists and removed old rubble and building material which can allow moisture to build up. We installed wire mesh and filled them with a mineral wool which has great insulting properties and also allows the subfloor to breathe. We reconstructed the floor with strong 80mm hardwood plywood over the joists.
After much discussion and colour sampling, we settled on the right colour for the floor. We evenly oiled the grain consistently across the whole ground floor to bring back its natural wood colour. We applied two coats for extra protection.
The customer was very happy with their new and improved floor which they can enjoy for many years to come.
