Aged effect herringbone parquet and traditional stair cladding | Chelsea SW5
This herringbone parquet and stair cladding project was based in a Victorian mansion garden flat in Chelsea. The project involved restoring an existing parquet on the ground floor, fitting a new parquet on the lower ground floor and cladding the stairs, all with a matching colour to the original parquet.
We restored the old parquet floor on the ground floor. We deep cleaned the blocks, corrected scratches and blemishes and re-oiled the existing parquet. This brought the old parquet floor back to life, the colours were once again vivid and the condition of the blocks were greatly improved.
Our expert craftsmen colour matched the new parquet blocks and the new boards to perfectly match the rich brown tones of the existing and newly restored parquet. This rich brown parquet colour is a custom blend from Fin Wood’s bespoke colour collection. The new parquet has an aged effect which makes a clearly exquisite floor, delightfully practical too. The pre-made dents and rough edges mean that life’s normal wear and tear simply adds character to the wood.
In keeping with the style of the house we cladded the stairs in a traditional style with a round edge bullnose on the edge of each step. The rounded style of the balustrades and banister and the perfect complement to classically cladded steps.
This unique period property has direct access to the garden from a number of rooms and both levels. The owner was keen for each access point to have an integrated door mat to keep the home tidy and protect the floor. We retrofitted a circular mat for the garden entrance and created a new lower ground entrance door mat and window sill door mat. We recommended a circular design for the living room door mat. We agreed to do something a little different for this main reception room and proposed a more gentle rounded design.
The customer was thrilled with her new wood floors and now timelessly elegant home.
