Raw Natural Oak Herringbone Parquet with Single Row Border | Pimlico SW1
This project was completed in a riverside townhouse set within a quiet, gated community in central London. The scope of works covered the whole ground floor, including the entrance hallways and the kitchen dining area. We installed a raw, natural oak herringbone parquet floor, finished with a simple single row border to frame the space. The floor was treated with a highly durable, low maintenance oil finish, chosen to retain a natural look and feel while offering long lasting protection suitable for everyday living.
Parquet flooring is a versatile choice that works beautifully throughout the home. It creates a strong first impression in entrance halls, while also lending itself perfectly to principal living spaces such as kitchens, snugs and connecting hallways. Suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors, parquet complements a wide range of décor styles. Among the various layouts available, the herringbone pattern remains the most classic and widely admired, valued for its timeless appeal and balanced proportions.
The clients were keen to preserve the natural character of the oak. Raw oak offers the ideal balance of pale, pared back tones and subtle rustic detail, resulting in a floor that feels effortlessly considered and timeless in its design.
While many of our projects involve suspended timber subfloors, this property benefited from a stable concrete screed base. The entrance hallway was previously carpeted and the kitchen finished with tiles. Once these coverings were removed, areas of the screed were found to be weak and required the application of a self levelling compound. This preparation created a sound, even base and proved highly effective for the installation that followed.
The clients favoured a natural, traditional oak floor and selected a bevelled edge detail to enhance its character. Bevelled edge parquet is an excellent choice for achieving a classic, rustic appearance while benefiting from modern day durability. Each block is manufactured with a gently sloping edge, giving every piece a clearly defined outline once fitted together.
