This very unusual project of a boat moored in a Portsmouth penthouse apartment provided an obvious challenge in regard to a practical kitchen space yet resulted in a highly functional island with a totally unique design!
Using the concept of sailing and boats, the sweeping curves utilised throughout this island kitchen design link the design to its location. This just happens to be the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth Harbour, over which the kitchen windows looks. Custom metal bar supports created for the breakfast bar mimic the towers form, and the wooden spinnaker sail- shaped breakfast bar affirms the yachting design concept.
The use of vinyl floor tiles creates a grip deck feel complementing the nautical theme of the project whilst the addition of a bespoke glass splash back gives the whole design a huge injection of the owners' personalities and love of turtles! A project we loved working on!
