In this picture you can see that the island was built around the main pillar that supports the floor and ceiling above. This was a particularly brilliant feature of the island in that the granite worktops had been perfectly scribed and templated in to fit the contours of the old wooden pillar.

This particular room had very undulating walls from the old style plastering in this barn conversion. This meant that we has to scribe in the wall units for a perfect fit up against the walls.

Here again you can see where the wall unit has been scribed in around the protruding wall beam.
