How do we decide what size of tile is too big?

I have just had my very small bathroom tiled. I used very large white oblong tiles on three walls to give it a sense of space and it has worked very well, and then very small oblong tiles on one wall for a design feature. I am very pleased with the result. My advice would be to go for the largest tile.

I would still suggest tanking/waterproofing the room prior to the installation of a standard shower tray or bath. Waterproofing membranes with the European Technical Approval will withstand normal movement within a house but the flooring and walls need to be of sound construction - a wetroom can be properly fitted in age of building. These principles apply to a standard tray or bath as the silicone beading around the edge may fail (from movement/age) and let wall bypass the tray, causing damage to the building underneath. This picture was taking after a bath with wall mounted shower was removed. The silicone had failed causing the wood to rot. This was all replaced and the below was created in its place: A bath will be easier for people with young children and if you plan to sell on, a wetroom will appeal to some where a bath will appeal more to others. Which ever path you choose (both your designs look nice) I would recommend waterproofing the room before it is installed. Kind Regards Mike

Hello there, I'd say that the screen is there to protect, so I'd think about which areas of the bathroom you are most keen to protect from getting soaked - is it more important to protect the sink and whatever is next to it (such as toilet paper), or, if the door entrance is right opposite the shower like in the top image, is it more important to protect the door? Also, do you know what kind of shower you are looking for - large overhead shower fitted to ceiling, wall-mounted shower head, shower column, etc? I have a similar size and shape. Mine has the door where your 0.8m dimension is shown and an airing cupboard below where your door is indicated. This has meant I can move this stud wall to increase the bathroom a little and can now fit in a separate shower. We’re having a small freestanding bath 1650 x 685 under the window, WC between bath and shower with basin on left wall. Might be worth uploading the floor plan showing adjacent rooms.

Removing the cupboard sounds like a great idea! It will definitely open up the space and provide an opportunity for extra storage. To maximize the storage opt for a double floorstanding vanity unit.
