Bigbury Hollow, PPS 7, Kent
This underground house, aptly named Bigbury Hollow is flooded with daylight via two large terraced courtyards at each end of the building.
The courtyard terraces provide planting areas for growing vegetables & culinary herbs. The sunken nature of the courtyards also helps conceal domestic furniture and prevent light pollution from the house at night.
Impact on the environment is minimised by incorporating many state-of-the-art environmental building materials and techniques as well as various pioneering technologies to reduce the building’s carbon footprint and minimise its impact on the environment.
